Trip Summary
On the afternoon of June 17, we headed toward San José del Cabo, working the 2-mile line parallel to the coast.
Just after deploying the trolling spread off Primeras Piedras, a mahi mahi struck one of the lures. Unfortunately, after a brief fight, the fish managed to throw the hook.
Continuing along the same course, about 10 minutes later, we hooked a skipjack tuna, which was successfully landed and released.
A short time later, a mahi mahi aggressively attacked a blue and white Flying Fish lure, resulting in a successful catch and our first fish on board.
We remained in the productive area, making several passes through the spot, where we hooked three additional skipjack tuna, all successfully released.
As the trip was winding down, we hooked what appeared to be a shark, but the fish came off before it could be identified and brought alongside the boat.
