Trip Summary

YEAR OF THE TUNA IN COSTA RICA! Josh & Liz from North Caroline joined us these past few days for an Offshore trip aboard GOOD DAY fishing in Quepos. The Billfish eluded us but we had a great day on the Tuna. We worked hard all day & literally tried everything we had to get a bite out of the Tuna. The Tuna were very leader shy & with 100lb plus fish busting on the surface, sending a live bait down on 40lb Flurocarbon feels a bit nervy. But this is what it takes and even the 40lb Fluro was too much for them with fish turning away at our live Baits. We caught two Tuna on live Baits, one on Jig & the two biggest fish of the day of 48lb & 64lb fell to Surface Poppers. We caught 5 Tuna in total, losing 3 more with the biggest of the day going to Liz, awesome stuff! We had an excellent Tuna season in Costa Rica in 2017 with Yellowfins caught in literally every month of the year. 2018 is off to a great start with lost of 30-50 pounders, some solid fish in the 80-120lb range and some bigger fish mixed in also. The opportunities to catch a 100lb plus fish on Spinning tackle are excellent! The Year of the Tuna continues!
