Trip Summary
Great to have Stephen, Johnny, Dennis & Kevin with us aboard GOOD DAY this week for 3 days fishing in Quepos Costa Rica. The guys had flown in from Jacksonville & Colorado for a buddies fishing reunion. The first day started off slow but thankfully the Fishing improved and we had a couple of great periods of action with Roosterfish & Dorado and the guys caught some nice fish.
Day 1
1 for 4 on Sailfish
1 for 2 on Dorado
Day 2
A bucket list day for sure, with each one of the guys catching their first ever #Roosterfish. First bite of the day resulted in a 50lb+ Rooster which measured 53” for Kevin Range and he was delighted with this fish after several previous unsuccessful trips searching for one. We pushed 7 miles out for a couple of hours to fish along the current lines for Dorado before heading back to the Rocks for the final part of the day which proved a great decision as the Rooster bite was on!
Catch tally for the day:
4 Roosterfish 50lb, 40lb, 20lb, 15lb
4 Dorados
Day 3
We caught 6 nice Dorados right off the bat on a current line 14 miles out in the first hour of the day. We then decided to head further offshore where we fished up to 36 miles out in 3500 feet of water to see if we could add some Billfish to the mix. Johnny & Kevin both successfully hooked Sailfish on their Spinning Rods which they hooked themselves using the bait & switch method on the teasers. Everything went right in terms of the hookups but the guys were unlucky with both fish throwing the hooks after a few nice jumps. We had one unidentified hookup on the Marlin rod but that also threw the hook & left us wondering whether it was the Marlin we had been searching for...
Day 3:
7 Dorados & lost/missed a few more
0 for 2 on Sailfish
In the 3 days we had an awesome afternoon on the Roosterfish and a great morning on the Dorado mixed with some slow periods in between. But that’s Fishing, great to have the guys with us & hope to see them back in CR again soon!
