Trip Summary

Here at the YB Normal in Fort Lauderdale we love to take kids fishing no matter how old they are, just something about taking kids fishing has a special place in my heart, its such a great feeling when they get excited about catching a fish, in this report I want to talk about a great trip that we recently had on the YB Normal, Bryan from Missouri recently book us for a private 4 hour morning charter he would bring his family out fishing with us his 2 daughters both ages 17 and his 4 year old son Will who would be going on a boat for the first time, we would leave the dock around 745am sharp and head out to the fishing grounds which in fort Lauderdale is less than one mile to catch quality fish, we would start out with our basic spread of 6 lines 4 of these would be surface baits and 2 of them would be planners with bonito strips, we would get a bite right away on one of our surface baits and 4 year old Will was the angler he would reel in a small bonito perfect size fish for him, next up we would receive a bite on the #4 planner and Bryans daughter will reel in a nice sized kingfish a very good eating fish and good fighter as well, we would continue to troll and hook a sailfish out of no where and fight this fish for over 45 min after tag teaming this fish Bryans 2 daughters would land this beast of a sailfish defiantly trophy size no doubt, we would take photos for memories and release the sailfish, shortly after we would receive a bite on our deep planer a #8, 4 year old Will was the angler and he would give it everything he had to get this fish to the boat after a great battle he would land all by himself a beautiful wahoo! one of my favorite fish for the table as well as the colors and patterns a beautiful fish, he reeled the fish in all by himself I was even impressed and that doesn't happen often, everyone was cheering on Will and he was even smiling, we would shorty head in and return to the dock. It was a great deep sea fishing trip, as we say dinner and a show. We would take some great photos at the dock as Bryan would thank us for showing his family a great time and he would then be on his way. I feel that it is very important for a Childs first time on the boat to be a memorable one in order for them to want to keep going out, so we always give it our best for the kids. As far as night fishing goes I have been out a few times this week and the bite has been some what decent if the wind is light we have had good catches of mangrove snapper as well as yellowtail and lane snappers, our best baits have been silversides for the snappers and small pieces of cut bonito, its been a good few days down here in Fort Lauderdale we do have some availability the next few weeks and we would love to have you out fishing. with us so what are you waiting for book us now!! more later... Red HOT Sailfishing In Fort Lauderdale
Red HOT Sailfishing In Fort Lauderdale
February 22, 2026
Hello everyone, Capt. Vinnie here from the command center. Its been a great week of deep sea fishing right here in For Lauderdale. This week we have been seeing some very good sailfish action while kite fishing with live bait, most trips as of late we have been exclusively fishing live bait and kite fishing, this time of year it is very important to have live bait. Trolling during the winter months can be slow, so your best bet is going to be to fish with live bait. For the most part we have been getting multiple sailfish chances and catches on our deep sea fishing charters, but do keep in mind that there are always going to be better days then others. The best days to fish right now are going to be just after we get these cold fronts, that is going to push the sailfish from up north down our way in search of warmer water. Fishing the day of a front is going to be super tough because the barometric pressure is changing as the front approaches and the fish get lock jaw. Although it is fishing and there are no guarantees we always try our best on every trip to make are customers happy. The most important thing is to have live bait right now its going to give you the best chance at catching fish. Other then sailfish we have been catching a few really nice sized tuna as well as scattered mahi mahi. Live bait is not only for sailfish but anything that eats other fish will try to eat a live bait. Trolling in the afternoons has been producing some blackfin tuna too. While trolling your not going to get the larger tuna right now but your going to get the numbers, which could be better for kids who don't have the patience to stick it out for bigger fish. Also mixed in with the tuna there has been some bonito and there is always that chance for a wahoo so its important to fish a bigger lure in your trolling spread incase that opportunity presents itself. Last but not least bottom fishing has kind of been a lost cause the conditions just haven't been right and the sailfish bite has been just too good lately to really try for anything else. Bottom fishing should pick up more as we approach the spring fishing patterns. This week please take a second and check out some of the great photos of some recent catches that were caught on our deep sea fishing charters out of Fort Lauderdale including one picture where we caught 5 sailfish. Also remember to give us a follow on social media platforms like facebook and instagram @Ybnormalsportfishing for daily fishing content. Coming up for the rest of the month of February we don't have any more availability but March is pretty wide open and we would love to take you out deep sea fishing and show you a great time on the water. I would imagine we will start to see some great spring fishing with sailfish, blackfin tuna and a few wahoo as well as some big game sharks starting to show up, all thats missing is you hope to see you soon! more later... Sailfish Action In Fort Lauderdale
Sailfish Action In Fort Lauderdale
February 10, 2026
Hello everyone, Capt. Vinnie here from the command center. This weeks report is a great one and its one that i feel that a lot of people have been waiting for. For this week i would say its safe to finally say that the sailfish are here. The week prior we had a very cold cold front, that i feel has pushed a lot of the fish that were up north down to the south in search of warmer water. Live bait fishing with a kite has been the name of the game, and live goggle eye has been the bait of choice. Now when you are fishing with live bait from a kite it doesn't necessarily mean that the only thing that will bite is a sailfish, most any predatory fish will **hidden content** bait. Mahi, kingfish, and blackfin tuna are all possible catches while kite fishing. To go kite fishing the first ingredient your going to need is wind, without that no kite is going to fly. Next is live bait. The kite is going to keep your bait on the surface of the water and a lot of the strikes you get are visual, sometimes you see the fish before they bite. This time of year when the wind direction comes from the north or north east that is the time to kite fish, a lot of the sailfish are going to be doing what we call tailing where they are surfing down the swell in search of food and the way the presentation works with the kite and live bait it is as natural as you can get. Most of the sailfish action has been in 150 feet of water, for the last few days we have had a nice edge where two currents meet forming a tidal edge, you are going to want to set up right on the inside of the northern current thats where your sailfish are going to be coming by. Other then sailfish this week the afternoon trolling for species like blackfin tuna has started to pick up, depths from 180-350 is going to be where to look, we have been seeing some larger size tuna this week around 10-15lbs which is great for this time of year. Small baits like 2inch spoons are going to get the best action while trolling because a lot of the tuna are feeding on small minnows and that is going to be the best way to match the hatch. While trolling for the tuna in the afternoon there is always a chance to get that wahoo because that is what's eating the tuna so its always important to have a bigger bait in your trolling spread incase you get that opportunity. This week please be sure to check out some of the great photos of some recent catches that were caught while out on our deep sea fishing charters in Fort Lauderdale and remember to give us a like and follow on social media platforms like facebook and instagram @Ybnormalsportfishing for daily fishing content. Coming up for the next few weeks we have some limited availability for the rest of the month of Feb, but a few dates do remain available. March has plenty of availability as well so if your heading down to south Florida and looking to do some deep sea fishing we would love to have you out with us for a great day on the water... more later Capt. Cold Temps HOT Fishing In Fort Lauderdal
Cold Temps HOT Fishing In Fort Lauderdal
January 29, 2026
Hello everyone Capt. Vinnie here, what a great report this week i have for you guys. To say the least it has been cold as a mother for us here in south Florida although i know what we think is cold here is not even close to the cold thats going on right now in the rest of the United States but don't make fun of us haha. Anyways it seems that the fishing has picked up very strong this week specially with live bait. This most recent cold front that just moved through seems to be the one that we needed to get the winter fishing patterns going. Live bait fishing with a kite has been our go to, kite fishing is very visual and a lot of times you see the bite before it actually happens. Sailfish is the main target but plenty of other fish with eat a live bait fished from a kite like, tuna, mahi, and king macks. As of late though there seems to still be some really nice mahi mahi around and we have been catching them while kite fishing, when i say nice im talking 10-20lb fish. Hard fighters and good eating also. Most of the kite fishing action has been scattered all over from super shallow in 80 feet and as deep as 200 feet. Every day is different though different conditions with currents and changing wind directions so the challenge becomes where are the fish going to be. Other then live bait action i have something very cool this week, we recently took out a great client of ours Daniel from Georgia on a 10 hour swordfish trip, Daniel has fished with us before and wanted to test his luck on catching a sea monster. We took Daniel and family out daytime swordfishing and after about 2 hours of fishing we hooked up with a monster! Raining sideways rough as heck and lightning cracking every where it was like something out of old man and the sea. After a 3 hour battle we landed a true beast of a swordfish a 300lb monster! (pictured) This was the trophy we were looking for. After a long ride back to the dock it was all smiles and we had a crowd of people when we pulled in to the dock and needed help getting it off the boat. It was one of those things were you had to be there to believe it. Im glad we were able to catch such a great fish for one of our great clients. Congrats Buddy! This week please be sure to check out some of the great photos of some recent catches that were caught while out on our deep sea fishing charters in Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood/Dania beach and remember to give us a like and follow on social media platforms like facebook and Instagram @Ybnormalsportfishing for daily fishing content. Coming up for the next few weeks I would imagine the sailfish action to remain steady for the next few months as well as scattered mahis and blackfin tuna to remain prevalent on afternoons trips, should be a great winter. If your coming down to south Florida and looking to do some deep sea fishing we have some availability for the month of February and March and as you can see from the recent photos fishing is HOT. We would love to have you out with us and we would love to show you a great time on the water. More later..... Capt. Vinnie
