Trip Summary
Another father & son trip in the books yesterday aboard GOOD DAY fishing out of Marina Pez Vela Costa Rica as Chris, Cam & Crosley from Cincinnati Ohio joined us.
Big fish on light tackle is always a cool experience & 20 year old Crosley put a 25lb Dorado in the boat on a super light spinning outfit which was a blast. After catching a couple of Dorado at 10-12 miles in the morning, we found a dead whale carcus which looked like it should hold some fish. We managed to catch a few bonitos for the tuna tubes but with nothing else showing, we headed further offshore to 30+ miles where we stumbled upon a commercial FAD (Fish attracting device) that was floating out there loaded with bait. It looked just perfect for a Marlin so we live baited it for a couple of hours, managed to catch a couple more Dorado but zero bites from Marlin or Sailfish which was strange as it looked perfect.
We then got a radio call that there was a few tuna with some spotted dolphins so we pushed out to 40 miles to give that a try. Despite seeing some really nice tuna chasing Flying fish, we could not get a bite out of them and our days adventure ended at 4 nice Dorados and the sight of a group of Pilot Whales moving through as we headed home.
Heading back out there now for another Father/Son trip to celebrate Jack’s 19th birthday, wish us luck!! ???
