TUNA FISHING ABOARD GOOD DAY IN QUEPOS C

Trip Summary

After a great run for the past 10 days or so, our luck had to run out at some point. Yesterday’s offshore trip we couldn’t have had two nicer guys aboard as Jason & David from Colorado joined us on GOOD DAY. The day got off to a crazy start when no sooner had we put the first teaser & line in the water, as we were just getting everything in place, we had a Blue Marlin on the teaser within the first minute of the day! He had 3 swipes at our islander/ballyhoo combos but did not connect. We pitched him a Bonito and we circled hard for the next few minutes but could not get him to come back. Almost a perfect start to the trip but it was a cool sight for the guys all the same! We have caught/hooked Marlin in the first 30 seconds & last 30 seconds of our trips, if you have a bait in the water, anything is possible, never give up hope! After a further fish-less hour, we picked up and ran to a Tuna School that was at 34 miles. We could not buy a bite for the first hour but then started getting success with an 8” transparent Squidnation Squid. The guys had a blast putting Tuna of 40lb & 28lb in the boat & missing a few more. We could have stayed catching Tuna but we switched back to Billfish hunting to see if we could solidify the day with some variety. We were not without our chances but a bit of bad luck prevailed. After a 10 minute fight with a 40lb Bull Dorado, it threw the hook pretty close to the boat. Then we raised another Blue Marlin which grabbed a Ballyhoo on the 30lb tackle, quickly spat it & did not return. And then we hooked a Sailfish, put it in the air and then watched it also throw the hook. As much we love it, fishing can be a little heartbreaking sometimes. Catch Report 7 January: 2 Tuna 0 for 2 Marlin 0 for 1 Sailfish 0 for 1 Dorado Back out there tomorrow, can’t wait!!
