Trip Summary

Hello everyone...Capt. Vinnie here I hope everyone had a great holidays and New Years, fishing down in Fort Lauderdale has been very good and I would love to tell you about it so lets start the report. This week in Fort Lauderdale starting inshore there has been a fair amount of Spanish mackeral on the beach side, trolling down the beach with small lures in about 10 to 15 feet of water has been best, mackerel are a great fish for the dinner table but also are great fighters making super fast runs as well. Just on the edge of the reef there has been sailfish like I said last week sailfish bite should continue to improve more and more every week, kite fishing has been the preferred method of attack for these guys and live bait is a must. Most of the sailfish we have been catching right off the coast of Fort Lauderdale have been in depths from 100 to 200 feet of water. Also something that we have been starting to see alot of is sharks. There has been an abundance of hammer head sharks in the area. Sharks are great gamefish, we are not able to kill any of the sharks that we catch but if your looking for a fight this is most certainly a bucket list item for most people!! Moving offshore there has been a fair amount of blackfin tuna, days that seem to be overcast have been best for these guys, small spoons and seawitches with strip baits have been best fishing a little on the deeper side as well from 300 to 500 feet. The next species that comes to mind that has been biting fairly well is wahoo, we have been doing quite well recently on this species right off the coast of Fort Lauderdale. Wahoo is a predatory gamefish that is super fast and has very sharp teeth big baits like rigged ballyhoo as well as bigger strip baits and bonito strips have been best for these guys depths from 180 to 400 have been the ticket and early morning seems to be the most productive. This time of year whenever we tend to have a strong wind from an easterly direction there is usually mahi mahi, more of a sometime fish we do catch a few of them in the winter time. All in all lots of variety right now in Fort Lauderdale and a great time to go fishing also. Last but not least bottom fishing for snapper has been productive, deeper wrecks and ledges have been best with small pieces of cut baits working well, the primarily snapper species have been vermillion but we have been getting a few yellow eye, lane, and mutton snappers in the mix also. If your coming down to the fort Lauderdale area and looking to do some deep sea fishing we would love to have you. Be sure this week to check out some of our great photos of some recent catches during our deep sea fishing trips. as always remember to follow us on social media platforms like facebook and instagram @Ybnormalsportfishing for daily fishing videos and pictures. Summer Is Here In Fort Lauderdale
Summer Is Here In Fort Lauderdale
May 23, 2022
Hello everyone Capt. Vinnie here, I have a good report this week the fishing remains pretty steady as expected for this time of year so lets get to it... As of late fishing in the Fort Lauderdale area has been consistent obviously as fishing goes some days are better then others but as a whole we have been having pretty good catches daily, with the summer time approaching its been super hot out there on the water so it seems the best times to fish are early mornings or late afternoons. Starting offshore there has been a few mahi mahi around but like I said last week it is a little early for them we should start to see them in a month of so but its a great sign to see them this early in the season, tuna have been hit and miss right now some days they are there and hungry and other days you scratch your head wondering where they went, as far as wahoo I always preach the month of May not being great for them but if the conditions are right its always worth spending a little time fishing for them specially early in the morning trolling planners down deep at fast speeds you could always get lucky and get one. Moving on the inshore side of things plenty of kingfish on the edge of the reef right now trolling planners with fresh bonito strips in depths from 80 feet on out to 120 feet has been most productive also some bonito in the mix as well, bonito are not the greatest fish to eat but they do fight hard which always makes for good fun. On days with good current plenty of big game sharks are biting right now to, fighting a shark is a good way to test yourself as an angler and pull on something large. Wreck fishing has been very productive to with live bait, large trophy amberjack are on some of the local shipwrecks just off the coast of fort Lauderdale, these guys can fight they call them reef donkeys for a reason if your looking for a fight amberjack won't back down trust me. Last but not least there has been some snappers biting on days with light current, vermillion snapper has been the catch as of late small cut baits like squid or bonito is the best, they have been moving around alot some days they are in 250 feet of water and some days out as deep as 500 feet, but once you find them they are very hungry thats for sure. Lots of fish biting right now in Fort Lauderdale in my opinion its a great time to get out and do some deep sea fishing if you are in the Fort Lauderdale area, make sure this week to check out some of the great pictures we have of some recent catches, also remember to follow us on social media platforms like facebook and instagram @Ybnormalsportfishing for daily fishing content. Back at it the next few days so should have a good report next week stay tuned more later... Capt. Vinnie
Hot Temps And Hot Fishing in Fort Lauder
Hot Temps And Hot Fishing in Fort Lauder
May 14, 2022
Hello everyone Capt. Vinnie here, I know its been a little while since my last report been busy fishing daily which is a good thing but I do like typing the reports to let you guys know whats going on in the waters right out Fort Lauderdale. As of late temps have been very hot and humid in Fort Lauderdale nothing like waking up at 6am everyday and loading up the boat before the customers arrive and already sweating, its hot thats for sure!! Fishing on the other hand is hot too lots of species biting right now morning and afternoon. Early mornings have been very productive trolling the edge of the reef in search of kingfish, bonito, and tuna. Our standard spread of planners down and surface baits has been productive and producing some nice sized king Macks, the best depths from 75 to 180 feet of water have had consistent action. Seems early in the mornings the fish are shallower and as the sun heats up the ocean the fish move deeper throughout the day. Inshore has been productive on kingfish and bonito early morning and late afternoon. Wreck fishing with live bait and heavy tackle has been very good lately as well large amberjack have began to make there ways on some of the deeper shipwrecks right off the coast of Fort Lauderdale, although we don't generally keep amberjack they are so so to eat but they fight and fight like no tomorrow they have the nick name reef donkey for a reason. While wreck fishing there is always a chance at a larger snapper or grouper as well as an occasional cobia. Moving a litter deeper to our offshore fishing we have been getting some nicer sized tuna on the troll. This week we did catch a yellow fin tuna which is excellent eating but somewhat rare for our area and still a great catch, Wahoo this week haven't been prevalent like I said a few reports ago the month of may and summer months are not great times for wahoo although they are fish we do catch year round winter months seem more productive for them. Fishing this week has been very very good one thing to look forward to is mahi mahi coming soon they are one of my favorite fish to catch here in fort Lauderdale and they should be making there way in the next few weeks so be ready for that to look forward to. Lots of great pictures this week to of some great catches caught during our deep sea fishing charters so be sure to check those out as well. Also remember to follow us on social media platforms like facebook and instagram @Ybnormalsportfishing for daily fishing content. Fishing should remain hot for another few months so if you were ever thinking of ever coming to Fort Lauderdale to do some deep sea fishing now is a great time to do so. Capt. Vinnie More later...
Hot Fishing Still In Fort Lauderdale
Hot Fishing Still In Fort Lauderdale
May 3, 2022
Hello everyone Capt. Vinnie here this week the fishing still remains hot in the fort Lauderdale area so lets talk about it... The fishing out of Fort Lauderdale remains to be very consistent on the offshore side of things there has been larger sized blackfin tuna moving through the area, early mornings and late afternoons have been best on these guys specially days that are overcast, trolling remains the best way to target these guys fishing small feathers or squid style lures as well as trolling planers to take baits deeper in the water. There still has been a few wahoo around although the month of may is not the best month to target wahoo there is always a chance to catch one when there is lots of tuna around because tuna is one of there food sources. Also the last week it has been very windy here and there has been some rather large mahi mahi that have showed up, there is no real way to target them yet because they are not in numbers but somewhat of a right place right time kind of thing but still mahi are always a great catch and lots of excitement. Moving on the reef the kingfish bite has been picking up major, lots of kingfish right on the edge of the reef and trolling for them with planners and seawitches has been very effective also live baiting has been very good in order to target the larger size kingfish, bonito have also been in full force here, not a great fish for the table, but great fish to fight and catch. On certain days with the right conditions anchoring up for yellowtail snapper has been very productive, current is a must to take your chum away from the boat and attract the snapper, using light tackle makes snapper fishing a blast. Anchoring up on the reef is always a great way to put some nice fish in the cooler for dinner. This week the fishing has been outstanding lots of different species to catch and different ways to target them to, as we approach summer time we should see certian species like mahi mahi pick up in numbers as well as big game sharks to definitely alot to look forward to in the near future. Make sure you check out our great photos this week of some great catches we had during our deep sea fishing charters, and remember to follow us on social media platforms like instagram and facebook @Ybnormalsportfishing for daily fishing content more later....
