Trip Summary

2022 OFFSHORE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP What a week it has been here in Costa Rica for the 2022 Offshore World Championship sponsored by Costa Sunglasses & Guy Harvey Over the 4 Fishing days, 37 teams battled it out to see who could be crowned this years World Champions. The lead changed 3 times in the final 24 hours, moving from Brazil to USA before Kenyan came in strong on the final day with an incredible days fishing catching 9 Blue Marlin to sweep the title of Offshore World Champions. An amazing result for a great group of guys, representing the small fishing town of Watamu on the Kenyan coast and Ocean Sports, the resort that they run there and Cate Gilmour & I have personally stayed at…it’s a small world. Aboard GOOD DAY we had Team Portugal, Team Brazil & Team Jamaica. Each team fished their socks off & all brought with them different styles, approaches & tackle. Team Jamaica yesterday were a total blast & have got to win the 2022 OWC fun award. Team Brazil the day before were poetry in motion. Watching them release a Blue Marlin on spinning tackle on a light 50lb leader was an experience in itself. A summary of our fishing aboard GOOD DAY: Day 1 - we fun fished with the tournament sponsors & went 2 for 5 on Sailfish Day 2 - Team Portugal Released 1 Sailfish, lost 2 more, raised 14 Sailfish total Day 3 - Team Brazil Released 1 Blue Marlin & 2 Sailfish. Raised 6 billfish total Day 4 - Team Jamaica Released 4 Sailfish, lost 2 more. Raised 12 Sailfish for 9 bites. 606 Sailfish & 67 Marlin were released over the 4 days plus 24 Dorado brought to the scales up to 58lbs. Huge congrats to all the winners and hope to see you back in Costa Rica again soon!
