Trip Summary

So remember my post about Banana man Keith from England yesterday? It turns out the Fishing gods didn’t mind the Bananas at all yesterday & we had a cracking days Fishing to end the week. Keith started the trip by losing a lovely sized Big Eyed Jack next to the boat but quickly followed up with the Wahoo that he had been searching for, for the past 3 years….to say he was delighted was an understatement! Tim had lots of action today & most of the week on Speed & Slow Jigs and managed to catch a Wahoo on the Jig which was very cool! Tim has been fishing with us 10-12 days a year for the past several years & I agreed with with him if he can catch a Marlin on a Jig he can have a free days fishing, challenge accepted & I wouldn’t put it past him! After a few hours on the Reef fishing in 120’, we pushed out to 300’ to try for a Silky Snapper, a really stunning Snapper species that we have in fairly deep water. Keith lost what was certainly a Silky Snapper, Reg caught a Snowy grouper and we added a few other colourful looking bottom dwellers to the species tally. To finish off the trip, we switched to the troll as a nice Sailfish bite had popped up in recent days. Reg caught the first fish, a nice Sail as part of a double but we lost the second. Keith then hooked up a stunning Dorado which he fought for half an hour on a Spinning rod before a 40lb, 64” Trophy Dorado hit the deck. As we entered the final minutes of the day, we had a pack attack of Sailfish hit the spread, we hooked 3 of them, 2 on Spinning rods & the guys had a blast each releasing their Sail & some tags were deployed for the research efforts of the awesome Gray FishTag Research Catch report - final day (Reg, Tim & Keith from England) 4 Sailfish (7+ raised) 2 Wahoo 1 x 40lb Dorado 2 Amberjacks 1 Jack 4 Rainbow Runners 1 Blue Runner 1 Snowy Grouper 5 Split Tail Bass 1 Tilefish 2 Devil Fish Lots of Bonitos What a way to end the week! It had been tough going weather & fishing wise earlier in the week but the guys persevered, #fishhard & were rewarded with some great catches. We did some boat maintenance today & back to Offshore tomorrow!
