Trip Summary
We have had some pretty cold weather here in the panhandle to start off our Winter. Temperatures have even dipped down in the low 20's which is pretty cold for our area. That being said, there are still fish to be caught. I've been targeting fish in deeper creeks and bayous where the water stays warmer and more consistent. This can take a little bit of searching, but when you do find the fish, they tend to be stacked up. With winter fishing I like to get a later start to the day. This allows the sun to come up and let the fish warm up a bit and get moving. Another added bonus to winter fishing is Sheepshead! These delicious fish tend to move into our bay and hang around structure once the water gets cold. In addition to trout and redfish these are some of my favorite fish to target in the winter.
