Flounder , Cobia, Big Spanish

Trip Summary

We were trying for Redfish with live bait yesterday and ended up with a few 3-5 lb Spanish Mackerel ! One grabbed our free-lined pogie and as it went streaking off across the surface of the smooth Atlantic , an 8 ft Bull Shark exploded on it at the surface throwing whitewater and making the sound off a safe being dropped off a high rise into the sea. What a beast . After an hr and a half we gave up on the Redfish and went looking for Flounder . We found a couple , along with some chunky 4-5lb bluefish , which , on 12 lb test made for some fun fights . Off in the distance it looked like the ocean was boiling as a 50 yard long school of baitfish started erupting on the surface . We eased over with the trolling motor in stealth mode and made a few casts. No takers at first , but then a fast , dark shape swiped at the fast moving jig and we saw the brown Cobia meander menacingly around the boat. A quick cast with a lively bait cinched the deal and we caught a fun 30” Cobia on 12 lb test . . Lots of action and beautiful weather. From now until January is the best time of year here , book the trip and make some memories.
