Trip Summary

We arrived at Finkles Shore Park in Bath before 7am and got setup, with the water extremely low, we got the boat in and headed west to the reach to hunt for some Bay of Quinte Gold Bars. Unfortunately today all we could manage were a couple hit and runs between the Bat Cave and the Lighthouse. And for those of you planning on getting out in the next week, the Ferry Launch is not going to be useable because the ice extends well to the east of the ferry. We made another pass near the bat cave towards Prinyers making sure the gear was in the right range with the #smartTroll but no takers so we picked up and moved out to the gap to have some fun with the Lakers! And fun it was. We got setup infront of the plants headed west to ride the increasing swell and wind and it was less than 5 mins and we popped a nice one. Then Daniel had one that broke off. We quickly set back and the other side went off and Daniel redeemed himself with a nice one! Two more in quick succession and then a double to finish off our day pulling lines at 3pm to head back and try and dry out a bit from all the rain! Thanks to @jbs_fishingdepot and their customs that did the heavy lifting today! Had a great day now to put the boat away for a short slumber and get the gear ready for next Season! Thank you all to those that came out and fished with us this season! Booking for next season is up and available! Eugene and Dominik his wife, are new Legend X20 owners and wanted to see what was possible so they got in touch with me and picked a time cause they had some holidays planned and we booked the afternoon session. They were out in their boat during the morning, and would come on mine for the fishing. We knew the water had changed since the morning so we ripped out to 300fow right away and put the spoon rigger rod down first. I turned around and it literrally fired in less than 10 seconds. Dominik did a great job bringing it in.. It was a nice mid teens Chinook. We got it back in the water, and reset the line. We got 2 other in the water before the spoon rigger fired again, this time a nice rainbow on the slider. And it certainly wasn’t as steady as the morning, but we kept picking away at it, bringing home 3 more chinooks and 2 cohos. Most gear was in the 40-65 feet deep with the deep meat rigger down 88. The issue out deep was the debris in the water, we were constantly having to check and clear lines as the crap on them was astounding. Branches leaves, sticks, everything. We fished out to 397 fow and turned around and came back in, picking away at them right till about 8pm when we we’re in about 240 fow coming at the marina and we had 2 good hits on the 250ws and 200 ws. One with Flasher fly and one spoon. This afternoon we didnt take any fish on meat. Eugene and Dominik had a great time and are already planning their return and possibly some fall walleye in Bay of Quinte with me.

Vince and his dad Bob, met me at the launch at 5:00am and we were headed out to the drop by 5:01, with our first line going in the water by 5:09am, and boy let me tell you it didn’t take long for it to start going crazy. I was about to put the 4th line in, and the Spoon Rigger down 55 fired with a small shaker on the slider. We were running a Hot Banana Mag, and a Bloody Nose Slider regular size. Got that line reset and got the 4th rod in, and the other rigger went off which was a 13” @projectsalmon UV SIICK kingfisher with Glow Twinkie rig and meat heat fired and it pulled some line. This is what we are looking for for the @greatontariosalmonderby . We wanted a board fish and this felt like it, pulling more line and not moving. Vince kept on it for over 15 minutes and then the line went limp.. Reeling in, only to find the bait head was gone with the full length to the swivel above still there. Must have been a good head shake and sawed it off… Their teeth are getting hard.. So I reset this rod with a different but similar rig, and got to getting the rest of the rods out, but one fish after another chinook, coho on spoon rigger, diver rod with 8” glow white split personality can’t decide and meat heads, and the green twin of this kept taking hits as well.. I finally got the 300 ws in with a custom mixed veggie flasher and fly and no sooner did it take a massive hit and hurried the board, and it didn’t come up for a very long time… about 10 mins in it went limp, like really limp.. The whole 300 WS came off with the rig. We managed to circle around and pickup the board successfully. Yet another possible board fish. We got a surprise Brown Trout on a 200 WS on a spoon shortly there after followed by a number of Rainbows, and a Coho.., We got 4 species today and both Vince and Bob were smiling from ear to ear. We fished along the drop from 170-220 and turned around just west of the filtration and headed back to bluffers and when we got about 1.5 miles west of bluffers we turned out and kept picking away at fish till we turned around in 300fow.
