Trip Summary

What a morning we had out on the water with John and the crew here at South Padre Island, Texas! The weather was partly cloudy throughout the day, but the fishing was red hot. As we met up at 7 AM, I knew this was going to be a great trip - April is prime time for both Red Drum and Spotted Seatrout in these parts, and the conditions were lining up perfectly. We started the day working different lures and depths to locate the baitfish. It didn't take long before John's rod bent over hard, and he was into a nice Redfish. That fish put up a great fight, stripping drag and making some strong runs, but John kept his cool and landed it beautifully. From there, the bite just kept getting better. The guys were tossing light tackle jigs and working the shallows, and we started seeing Spotted Seatrout oil slicks left and right. The action was nonstop, with fish smashing our baits as soon as they hit the water. In between the flurries of activity, we drifted some live bait and enjoyed the gorgeous South Padre scenery. The clear, calm waters and sunny skies made for an incredible backdrop as we reeled in fish after fish. It was one of those trips where everything just comes together - the perfect weather, hungry fish, and an enthusiastic group of anglers. By the time we wrapped up, we had a nice mixed bag of Redfish and Seatrout to show for our efforts. If you're looking to experience some of the best inshore fishing that the Lone Star State has to offer, I can't recommend a South Padre Island trip enough. Whether you're after trophy Redfish, limits of Spotted Seatrout, or just want to enjoy a fun day on the water, our 3-Hour (AM) Quick Trip has you covered. From the moment you step onboard, our team will work hard to put you on the fish and make sure you have an unforgettable experience. So what are you waiting for?

South Padre Morning Bay Trip: Speckled T
South Padre Morning Bay Trip: Speckled T
November 2, 2025
Megan and family headed out for our fall morning trip with partly cloudy skies and the possibility of storms rolling in later. The early morning conditions looked promising as we launched from South Padre Island for our half-day bay fishing adventure with Today We Fish Charter and Adventures. We focused on drift fishing and bottom fishing techniques, with some trolling mixed in to cover more water. They managed to land a solid speckled trout and a 25” drum during our session. South Padre Island's bay system works well for these techniques because of the varied structure and current patterns that hold fish consistently. We wrapped up the morning run with good action and plenty of time before any weather moved in. If you're looking to get on the water around South Padre Island, our 1/2 Day Morning Bay Fishing Trip with Today We Fish Charter and Adventures offers the perfect opportunity to target speckled trout and other bay species. We use proven techniques like drift fishing, bottom fishing, and trolling to maximize your chances of success in these productive waters. The morning trips work especially well during fall months when the fishing picks up and weather patterns are more predictable. Whether you're new to bay fishing or an experienced angler, we'll put you on fish using the methods that work best for South Padre Island's unique bay system. Book your trip with us and experience why our morning bay fishing adventures consistently produce results in these waters.
