Trip Summary

Hello everyone, Capt. Vinnie here, this weeks report I would say might be what alot of people have been looking to hear, offshore earlier in the week the bite was hot for mahi mahi. Offshore anywhere from 700-1000 feet is where majority of the action has been. If your heading offshore look for the seaweed patches, some have been as big as a football field. On days that it Is flat calm it is easy to spot but on days there is a slight breeze look for slick water that is the tell tail sign. There hasn't been much for birds offshore but if you happen to find like a frigate bird its worth following him around for a while, he could lead you to that pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. Most important thing in my opinion when going offshore looking for mahi is to bring some live bait. Pilchards would be my 1 choice. The live bait is key specially if you happen to get a few fish on and there is a scool behind the boat, you want to be able to give them a reason to stay around and if they are finicky the live bait will chance there whole demeanor. Moving inshore on the reef, late afternoons have been the best for blackfin tunas, although the bigger ones we were seeing earlier in the month have kind of taken a break, there have been some medium to smaller ones around. Anywhere from 180-280 feet has been the sweet spot and the later in the afternoon the better, right up till dark. Wreck fishing for hard fighting fish like amberjack has been pretty good this week as well, we have been having some heavy currents and that has been making for some excellent wreck fishing conditions right now. Live baits like small bonitos, blue runners, and goggle eyes are good choices to drop on shipwrecks around 200-300 foot. Heavy tackle is a must if you want to catch one of these big fish, nothing less then 100lb test. Last but not least trolling on the reef has been a little slower then normal kingfish bite has been so so, some days better then others I would imagine here shortly things will pick up in that department soon. This week please check out some of the great photos of some recent catches that were caught while out on our deep sea fishing in Fort Lauderdale and remember to give us a like and follow on social media platforms like facebook and instagram @Ybnormalsportfishing for daily fishing content. Coming up for the rest of the month of May, seems like the mahi bite is just beginning to heat up so that should only get better and better as we get closer towards the summer. We still have plenty of availability for the rest of the month of May so if your planning a trip down to fort Lauderdale and looking to do some deep sea fishing please look us up we would love to have you out fishing with us.... more later.. Finishing August With A Bang In Fort Lau
Finishing August With A Bang In Fort Lau

Finishing August With A Bang In Fort Lauderdale Hello everyone, Capt. Vinnie here. Its been a great week this week fishing here in Fort Lauderdale still super calm weather and some excellent catches as well. For the report this week we are going to begin on the reef. Trolling in the early mornings there has been pretty much non stop action on the false albacore right now, depths around 100 feet to 200 is going to be the best place to target them. Surface baits have been working well, also baits fished below the surface using a planner with a spoon has been just plain deadly. Other then false albacore there has been a few blackfin tunas mixed in and a few king mackeral are starting to show back up as well. This week we did manage to get super lucky and catch what I would say is the fish of a lifetime specially for our waters here in Fort Lauderdale. We caught a 70inch wahoo weighing 63lbs (pictured) in 600 feet of water on one of our deep lines with a sea witch and fresh bonito strip combo. We do catch a fair amount of wahoo through the year here but not many are as big as this one they seem to average 15-25lbs. Staying offshore there has been a few mahi mahi around but some days they are just easier to find then others, recently we had a bunch of wind from the west and that made it somewhat difficult to find the mahi, the west wind pushed them offshore so to speak. I still would continue to look for weed lines as well as birds if your heading offshore and it wouldn’t hurt to bring a few live baits as well just incase. Bottom fishing report has been super solid this week with some great catches of vermillion snappers as well as a few porgies. There has been very light current this week so we have been able to target these fish more accurately. Depths with structure around 200 feet has been producing consistent results of nice snappers. Average size on the snappers has been 2-3 lbs with a few almost in the 5lb range. This week please be sure to check out some of the great photos of some recent catches that were caught while out on our deep sea fishing charters and remember to give us a like and follow on social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram @Ybnormalsportfishing for daily fishing content. For the upcoming next few weeks looks like some great weather on the horizon, and the month of September is notorious for some great catches while out deep sea fishing. We should see some sailfish, as well as some great mahi mahi action and some bigger ones at that. Also bottom fishing for snapper is something that is great in the month of September. A lot to look to specially in future reports, so if your thinking about coming down to south Florida for maybe a few days or even for an extended vacation the month of September is a great time to get out and do some deep sea fishing. Look us up we would love to have you and show you a great time on the water… Capt. Vinnie

Nice Catches In Fort Lauderdale
Nice Catches In Fort Lauderdale
August 20, 2025
Hello everyone, Capt. Vinnie here, this week fishing has been on the up and up here in Fort Lauderdale. Even though the kids have went back to school and the business as been somewhat slow there still has been some very nice fish to catch right now. For the report this week on the inshore side of things there has been a good amount of sailfish being caught right now, the majority of the sailfish have been caught while trolling using surface baits unlike in the winter time when we are using kites with live baits to target sailfish. Most of the sailfish bites have been in depths around 100-300 feet of water and the average size fish has been around 70inches long. Other then sailfish there has been some false albacore on the reef in great numbers and some kingfish as well. All this action is taking place inside of 300 feet of water. Bottom fishing report this week has been very solid with some jumbo vermilion snappers. This time of year we seem to catch the biggest vermillion snappers due to the fact that they are spawning, most of the larger ones are females and have eggs. Vermillion snappers are a smaller snapper in size but what they lack in size they make up for it on the table. Depths around 200 feet have been seeing the best results and fresh cut pieces of false albacore has been our bait of choice. Average size on the snappers right now have been around 2-3lbs with a few close to the 5lb mark. Moving offshore the mahi mahi has been the hot topic of the week. There has been some great mahi action offshore in depths around 800 feet and some nice ones too, Lots of floating pieces of seaweed out there right now but the key is going to be the birds. If you can find birds your going to catch fish. The birds we are looking for are smaller in size we call them fluter birds because there typically just above the waters edge and there wings are flapping very fast, hence flutter birds. These birds are never solo if you see one there will be more close by. Right now going mahi fishing I still recommend and all day charter of 8 hours so you have plenty of time to find the birds and the fish, also its important to bring some live bait with you as well incase you run into a school of mahi. I have a great photo this week of a great mahi catch we had were we caught 25 keeper mahi. The average size of the mahi right now have been anywhere from 5 to 15lbs. This week please be sure to check out some of the great photos of some recent catches that were caught while out on our deep sea fishing charters and remember to give us a like and follow on social media platforms like facebook and instagram @Ybnormalsportfishing for daily fishing content. For the rest of the month of August we have plenty of availability if your coming down to fort Lauderdale and looking to do some deep sea fishing. The time is now for mahi as well as a bunch if other species too. Look us up and we will show you a great time on the water. More later..... Capt. Vinnie

Back To School In Fort Lauderdale
Back To School In Fort Lauderdale
August 11, 2025
Hello everyone, Capt. Vinnie here. This week the fishing has been just plain excellent off the coast of Fort Lauderdale right now. For the report this week we will start offshore. There has been a pretty consistent mahi mahi bite this week and some good size on them too. There has been a good amount of large weed patches and some birds offshore right now. Some days there is just to much seaweed to fish in 1 trip so the key is to look for the birds thats what is going to pay off. If you can get lucky enough to get in front of some there has been plenty of hungry mahis willing to take your baits. Average size on the mahi has been anywhere from 5-10lbs with a few larger fish around 15lbs in the mix. Moving inshore the reef has been hot right now on the troll. Plenty of action especially if you only have a half day trip. A lot of false albacore or bonito right now but mixed in with them is the other species like king mackeral and blackfin tuna, trolling with fresh strip baits and seawitches is our go to to get bites. Early mornings you tend to see more action with surface baits but as the day goes on the deeper baits fished under the surface using a planner get more bites. Also on the reef there has been a few sailfish around even though sailfish are more of a winter time species we have been catching a few on our trips. Last but not least bottom fishing for species like vermillion snappers has been excellent right now with some large ones close to 5lbs, most structure in depths around 200 feet has them pretty consistent right now, we did manage to get lucky this week and catch a beautiful red grouper, we dont catch many grouper in our area so everyone we do get is a treat for sure. This week please be sure to take a look at some of the great photos of some recent catches that were caught while out on our deep sea fishing charters and remember to give us a like and follow on social media platforms like facebook and instagram @Ybnormalsportfishing for daily fishing content. Like the title says "back to school" this week the kids return back to school and the fishing industry slows down a little bit buisness wise but that doesn't mean that the fishing slows down. The month of August in my opinion is one of the best time to chase fish like mahi in our area. As well as wahoo, kingfish, and tuna. If you have an opportunity to get down to south Florida and do some deep sea fishing right now it is one of the best times, it is off season so hotels are cheaper and the weather is excellent everyday, I can't find an excuse not to come fishing for a few days. Anyways for the rest of the month of august we do have a good amount of availability for deep sea fishing charters, so look us up we would love to show you a great time on the water. Capt. Vinnie
