My girlfriend and I went for a half day Inshore trip targeting Tarpon. We set out on his beautiful 24ft Contender center console. Captain Carlos caught some live bait first thing as we were headed towards the mangroves. We had two good bites within the first 20 minutes and lost both of the fish. It was an exceptionally slow morning and the tides were working against us, but we had lines in the water the whole time and were seeing rising Tarpon all around.  Captain had never seen nor had a morning like it because the fish were everywhere just not biting. We decided to move to a different spot and spent a little time there with no action. I realized that my half day was up but Captain assured me he wasn’t gonna give up until he put us on some fish. Which has never happened in my experience as a client on a fishing boat. The tides changed and we moved back toward the original area we had started in and sure enough we hooked up! Keep in mind this is after the agreed upon time frame. I caught my first Tarpon ever and so did my Girlfriend. Shortly after we hooked up on a monster. Around 100lbs, drag was screaming and when the fish jumped my adrenaline was pumping hard. The gear we true and the hook was in there so even though I wasn’t a pro I got to fight this beast for a good 10minutes. Unfortunately the fish made a run for the mangroves and broke off but that’s what Tarpon fishing is all about. You win some and you lose most fights. The fact is Captain Carlos went above and beyond to put us on the fish no matter what. He wasn’t concerned with how long or the time just that we had a great experience, caught some fish and had some stories to leave with. I’m super grateful for the experience and for meeting Carlos. He’s a great Captain, super professional, knows where the fish are and won’t give up. I highly recommend The Drop Fishing because even in the rare event the fish just arnt biting and the conditions arnt right Carlos will make sure to put you on the fish no matter what.
