Captain Rose is worth it

6 Hour Trip – Halibut (PM)

What a great time! Went out last year in August of 23' with Captain Rose. Had an absolute blast. Been on a few charters before (mostly out east) and this was my first time on the West coast. Was mostly just a tag along in all my past experiences but I had such a good time and learned so much from Josh, the captain, that I decided to book another charter for this year. While I definitely didn't have the experience that Josh did, he never made me feel inferior and made sure I was always comfortable and having a good time. Everything was very professional and top quality, including the banter we had out on the water. I don't know if we were just lucky that day or if Josh just knew the spots, but we couldn't cast a line without pulling something in. I was there for Halibut and my mission was more than accomplished. Will be coming back to catch me some fresh Salmon and can't wait. Hopefully Captain Rose can deliver again! If you are near the area and want to try something new or are an experienced angler and just looking to let someone else handle the legwork I highly recommend Hooked on Fishing! You won't be disappointed!

    Great Multi-Species Morning!

    Half Day Salmon Trolling - AM • 4 adults

    Group of Washingtonians coming up to Vancouver Island for the first time. This charter was the perfect way to end the trip, as we were treated to an easy, enjoyable, and epic adventure around Sooke Bay with Captain Josh. Going for all things salmon, he got us on some beautiful wild Chinooks in the first thirty minutes before we reeled in our third fish, and first keeper. Once the bite slowed, Capt Josh immediately kept the momentum up by trolling us faster and shallower to see the Coho bite. It was a slow but consistent bite, with some small Chinook shakers and Native Coho going back before we got a nice keeper Coho. On the way back in to the bay we also got a nice pink #bonus! Into the smoker she'll go. Finally, the crab pots only yielded one male, but such does it go these days. Overall, even beyond the satisfactory performance of fishing Capt Josh yielded, he was a pleasure to be with and was a helpful guide who let us get to see what this island is all about!

    I had an incredible solo fishing trip out of Sooke on Vancouver Island, my first time fishing in this stunning area, and Captain Joshua made it unforgettable! Despite windy conditions and choppy waters, Joshua handled the boat with total confidence and skill, making me feel safe and at ease the whole time. His expertise and friendly demeanor turned a challenging day into a thrilling adventure. The rugged beauty of Sooke’s coastline was a highlight. I highly recommend him to anyone looking for a memorable fishing experience—beginner or pro! Can’t wait to book again.

    April fishing trip

    Solo Angler Fishing - AM • 2 adults

    Today’s outing off Vancouver Island was memorable: we successfully landed an 80 cm Chinook salmon, nearly boated two other potential catches that escaped just before they breached the surface, and encountered a bounty of crabs—most of which we ethically released due to regulations and conservation concerns. Huge thanks to our captain for keeping us on the fish and making the day a blast—couldn’t have asked for a better guide!

    Came home with an 80cm King Salmon!

    Full Day Salmon Trolling • 2 adults

    Fishing with Josh was just the hands on experience we were looking for. The last thing we wanted was to be packed on a boat with a bunch of people we didn't know. When you book with Josh, you book the boat. Josh was a great capitan and provided us with a hands on experience which is what we wanted. By the end of the trip, we had caught 1 x 80cm king salmon, 1 wild coho (which we released due to restrictions at the time) and a bunch of dungeness crabs. Would highly recommend fishing with Josh!
