Fishing in Key Biscayne

Known as the “Island Paradise” to locals, Key Biscayne is the perfect getaway from Miami. And we think there’s no better way to discover the riches on offer here than on a Key Biscayne fishing charter. From the shallow waters of the Biscayne Bay to the depths of the Atlantic, world-class fishing is the name of the game wherever you decide to go.

Grassy flats characterize the bay, and they’re an ideal home for some of the most sought-after inshore fish in the world. Redfish, Permit, Bonefish, Mackerel, Jacks, Snook, Sharks, and even Tarpon can all be found here, so you’re in for excitement. Don’t forget about the reefs at the edge of the bay, either. You’ll find a generous serving of Snappers, Groupers, Cobia, Barracuda, Hogfish, and much more.

Key Biscayne is also in a great spot to head offshore. With the Gulf Stream just a few miles out, a range of tough and delicious fish await on what promises to be a productive day out. Mahi Mahi, Wahoo, and Kingfish are the most common catches nearer to shore. However, Blackfin Tuna, Swordfish, Sailfish, and Blue and White Marlin are the creatures that’ll get the pulses racing.

Inshore trips can last as little as a couple of hours, meaning the whole family can enjoy a fishing experience without the little ones getting bored. To make the most of the offshore fishing scene, however, you’ll want at least a full day on the water. Thankfully, Key Biscayne fishing charters are geared up for all kinds of adventures!

Rules & Regulations

All fishing charters in Key Biscayne come with fishing licenses covered for all on board, so that’s one less thing to worry about. Your professional guide will also know all the latest size and bag limits, so you can sit back and focus on the fishing.

Key Biscayne Fishing Seasons

January

Biscayne Bay is very clear in January, making it the perfect place for some sight fishing for prized inshore fish. If you’ve got the guts to take on the waves offshore, then Sailfish will keep you on your toes!

February

The offshore bite is still hot, but you’ll also find anglers going after Bonefish in the clear waters. That can be a load of fun, especially if you’re packing flies, so February is great for all kinds of angler.

March

Offshore fishing heats up come March, with Blackfun Tuna making their way along the Gulf Stream. If inshore fishing is more your thing, then Tarpon numbers in the bay rise towards the end of the month.

April

Get ready for huge numbers of Bonefish to be waiting for you inshore, adding to the Tarpon bite that's red hot. Fishing the Biscayne Bay has never been more exciting, and it's before peak season hits!

May

Blue and White Marlin will be making an appearance around this time, so get ready for some exciting Billfishing in the Gulf Stream. Book a full day charter or longer, and make the most of the height of the season.

June

Fishing in Biscayne Bay is as good as it gets, with Tarpon and Permit dominating the waters. June is probably the final call for Tuna trips before October, so grab your last chance for a mixed bag of meat and trophies.

July

Bigger Tarpon will have moved out of the bay by now, but Permit is still here, along with Bonefish and Jacks. Any place is a good place to be fishing now – just make sure to book early!

August

The hot surface temperatures at this time of the year requires you to be flexible. Don't worry, though, there are plenty of charter operators ready o take you fishing first thing in the morning or as the sun goes down.

September

September usually provides perfect conditions for Bonefish to spread all around, so get your fill of bay fishing. Other worthy targets this time of year include Kingfish and Snapper, so the reefs can be productive too.

October

Blackfin Tuna are back in town, and you’re more than welcome to go after them! Mahi Mahi are likely to swim closer to the shore this time of year as well, so a trip to the Gulf Stream is sure to yield great rewards.

November

While reef fishing may tempt you nearshore, the real action takes place in the deep. Sailfish return to the fold, along with Wahoo, Blackfin Tuna, and Swordfish. Come and get your trophy catch!

December

Just because the year is drawing to a close, it doesn't mean you need to stop fishing. Whether it’s Cobia, Kingfish, Sailfish, or Tuna you're after,  a good time on the water is a given.
