Fishing in Miramar Beach

Just a few miles east from the “Luckiest Fishing Village in the World,” it’s no surprise that Miramar Beach offers incredible angling opportunities. Separating the Choctawhatchee Bay from the Gulf of Mexico, it’s a haven for all kinds of fishing. Hop aboard one of the numerous Miramar Beach fishing charters and get ready for an adventure like no other!

Beginners and pros alike will relish the chance to get out on the calm waters of the bay. These shallow hunting grounds are home to a year-round population of Redfish, Trout, and Flounder – known locally as the “Grand Slam.” Come summer, you’re sure to have your hands full with Tarpon, Jack Crevalle, and plenty more additions to the fishing scene.

You’re also just a short ride away from some productive reefs, where some of the best fishing action takes place. While everyone’s attention turns to Red Snapper when the season opens, there’s plenty of Cobia, Kingfish, Spanish Mackerel, Gag Grouper and much more on offer, too.

And there’s more! Deepwater canyons are well worth the long journey to the Gulf of Mexico. Mahi Mahi and Wahoo are the most popular catches in the deep, but it’s not uncommon to come across Tuna, Sailfish, and even Marlin, so get ready to push your strength to the limit!

To get to the deep waters, you’ll need a few hours, so trips upwards of eight hours are best for this. Heading to the reefs can usually see you max out on a six-hour trip, with inshore fishing lasting as little or as long as you want.

Rules & Regulations

Casting from a Miramar Beach fishing charter will mean that you don’t need to purchase a fishing license. You’ll also have the added bonus of the assistance of a professional captain, who’ll make sure you’re fishing within limits.

Miramar Beach Fishing Seasons

January

Start the year off in the right way, and head to Miramar Beach to experience some seriously productive inshore fishing! Choctawhatchee Bay offers up plenty of Redfish and Speckled Trout action in January.

February

Bay fishing remains strong, with Redfish and Speckled Trout showing up in abundance. Offshore fanatics can head south of Miramar Beach, to test their skills against bottom-dwelling Grouper and Snapper species.

March

Fishing starts to seriously heat up, with Spanish Mackerel regularly being caught on the Gulf side of Miramar Beach. Choctawhatchee Bay offers up Redfish and Speckled Trout, and the first Flounder start to appear.

April

Grouper and Snapper fishing around the nearshore reefs of the Gulf is seriously strong, and the bay's Redfish and Speckled Trout action only gets hotter. The Flounder population is increasing, so the fun never ends!

May

May marks the start of the Gulf's impressive Mahi Mahi angling opportunities. Head south from Miramar Beach for the chance to battle this offshore favorite, and fish the nearshore reefs for bottom-dwellers on your way out.

June

As the weather continues to heat up, so does the fishing on offer. North of Miramar Island, Choctawhatchee Bay is overflowing with Specks, Reds, and Flounder, while Mahi Mahi and Marlin can be hooked offshore.

July

This month is all about variety when it comes to Miramar Beach's fishing opportunities. Choctawhatchee Bay, the reefs, and the deep blue waters of the Gulf are all equally plentiful, with big game fishing especially hot.

August

It's peak season, and the fishing is red hot! You can hook Grouper and Snapper around the reefs, or battle Mahi Mahi and Marlin in the deep. Bay fishing offers up Reds and Specks, so there's something for everyone.

September

The busy summer crowds start to thin out, but the action beneath the water remains jam-packed! The bay offers up trophy-size Speckled Trout, Flounder, and Redfish, and Grouper and Snapper can be caught on the reefs.

October

October means one thing to many local anglers: fishing for huge Bull Reds in Choctawhatchee Bay! Head to the grassy flats east of Miramar Beach to test your light tackle skills against some trophy-sized beauties.

November

Temperatures start to drop, but the fishing remains strong, especially when it comes to trolling for pelagics offshore. Bottom fishing around the nearshore reefs is equally as productive, and bay fishing is on fire.

December

End the year with a bang by targeting Choctawhatchee Bay's "Grand Slam." You'll have the chance to hook into Flounder, huge Redfish, and Speckled Trout. Treat yourself to the best Christmas present around!
