Frequently Asked Questions about Fishing Charters in Georgia

According to customer reviews, Bad Intentions Fishing Charters, Beck N Call Fishing Guide Service, and North Georgia Trout Fishing are some of the most popular fishing charters in Georgia. Full list of top fishing charters in Georgia.

The average price for a private 4 hour Georgia fishing trip is $482, while an 8 hour private trip will cost you $813 based on prices on FishingBooker.com.

Bad Intentions Fishing Charters, Beck N Call Fishing Guide Service, and North Georgia Trout Fishing all received great reviews from families who booked fishing trips in Georgia.

The most popular fish species you can target are Redfish, Striped Bass, and Flounder. Top fishing techniques include Light Tackle, Spinning, and Trolling. Inshore fishing, nearshore fishing, and lake fishing are commonly offered by local guides.

Georgia is known for its incredible freshwater fisheries and some vastly underestimated saltwater ones, too. With over 4,000 miles of streams, countless lakes and rivers, and 100 miles of Atlantic coastline, hopping aboard a Georgia fishing charter is an adventure. You’ll get a warm welcome both on and off the water in the “Peach State!”

Let’s kick it off with freshwater fishing. You’ll find several species of Black Bass in Georgia’s waters, including Largemouth, Smallmouth, Redeye, and Shoal. There’s also incredible Spotted and Striped Bass action. If it’s table fare you’re after, Brown, Rainbow, and Brook Trout make for excellent targets in the streams. And if that wasn’t enough, try targeting Walleye, Crappie, Bream, and Catfish.

In the saltwater marshes and inshore Atlantic waters, you can count on an abundance of Redfish, Spotted Seatrout, Flounder, and even Tarpon! Head to the reefs and wrecks for delicious Red Snapper and Black Seabass, or into even deeper waters for Wahoo, Mahi Mahi, Marlin, and a variety of Tuna.

Those who only have a few hours to spend on the water will have a great time targeting freshwater fish or inshore saltwater targets. For record-breakers, however, set aside a full day. The productive bottom and offshore fishing grounds are 20–60 miles offshore, so a full or extended full day on the water is necessary.

You’ll find charters across the state. If you’re saltwater fishing, Savannah and Jekyll Island are excellent starting points. To target Trout, explore the Blue Ridge area. For Bass and Walleye, Lake Lanier and Lake Seminole are renowned fisheries.

Rules & Regulations

All anglers over the age of 16 will need to purchase a fishing license before hopping aboard a charter. Your captain will keep you informed of all regulations related to open seasons and bag limits.

January

While the weather may be unfriendly, the Redfish bite around the Golden Isles will keep your blood pumping throughout the cold! Lake Seminole will warm your heart with its exciting and productive Bass fishing.

February

Lake Lanier is a popular winter destination due to the Striped Bass bite, which is really good during the cold months. You can also find Crappies here and in other lakes near the marinas and other larger structures.

March

Largemouth Bass and Crappies can be caught in shallower waters on warmer days. For saltwater anglers the main target will be the Whiting, while Flounder starts creeping in during this month.

April

Clarks Hill Lake sees Crappies moving in during early April and late March. The Bass move into spawning pockets during April, they can be caught with a variety of different baits.

May

Tripletail starts to move in the waters of Jekyll Island in May. Other saltwater fishing is picking up speed really quickly during this month – you can expect to go inshore for some reel-screaming action!

June

If you’re a Tarpon fanatic this is the month you should be in Georgia, St. Simons and Jekyll islands have been hubs of Tarpon action in the past several years. Blacktip Sharks are a popular target in June as well.

July

The Tarpon are moving into coastal rivers and inlets during this month, they can be seen rolling and feeding on the surface. Flathead Catfish can also be caught in holes on outside bends of the Altamaha River.

August

Blue Catfish are mostly targeted during August, with the state record (over 80 lbs) Catfish caught in August. They’ll go for live Bream or cut Shad, if you present it near the bottom. You can also go after Carp at Clarks Hill Lake.

September

Bull Redfish are moving in the sounds during September, the perfect time to go after that trophy fish! You can catch Flounders even from piers, as well as Whitings. Spotted Seatrouts and Tarpon are kicking in in greater numbers too.

October

Tarpon are moving out this month, hurry up if you’re looking to tick one off of your catch list. Time to go for trophy Brown Trouts in the Chattahoochee River. Bass, Catfish, and Crappies are all popular targets to go after.

November

If you’ve got some ice in your veins you can go wading down the Toccoa River for the gorgeous Rainbow Trout. Spotted Seatrouts bite really well during November, but that also depends on the weather.

December

Bass fishing is the name of the game in December, just know that bait choice is crucial during this period – you find the right bait and you’ll have a much easier time with the fish. Look for schools of baitfish to tip you off where to target.

The heat and water temperature have an affect on fishing. The warmer the water, the deeper the water you need to fish. Early morning/ evening are best unless you have a guide with hot spots to get you on the fish. Bring water, snacks, and good attitudes to achieve best results.

The weather can be variable as far as rain is concerned. So be sure to bring appropriate raingear. A ponch is lightweight and easy to carry. Also check with your guide to see what fish are biting in October. We were successful fishing for redfish.

After limiting out on Reds with many over slot and a couple flounders and trout, booking a second day was a no brainer. After limiting out on Reds on our second day, we continued until the bait was gone. I can't tell who had more fun, us or Capt. Tucker. He is very enthusiastic and knowledgeable. The conditions weren't ideal, but he had a plan to not only catch fish, but also have an adventurend and it produced. We look forward to our next trip to Savannah and wouldn't hesitate to book again.

Capt Mac did an awesome job on a awfully cold and windy March day, 45 degrees and blowing out of the NW at 25MPH, we were able to land a couple of trout and missed a few others. Capt Mac also had his hands full with two 13 years olds but he pressed on trying as many as we could fit it, will definitely book again next time in Tybee

Captain Slay was very friendly & professional. He immediately made us feel comfortable aboard his very nice boat. He is very knowledgeable and has everything you need to have a great day out on the water. Len was determined to get us on fish as he adjusted his techniques to determine where & how the fish would take our baits. We caught plenty spotted bass and 3 stripers, two over 20lbs! - Highly recommended

We did a 6 hour trip inshore for Red fish, trout, and flounder. Our weather conditions werenโ€™t the greatest with wind and cold from a front coming in but we still managed to catch several fish. 5 reds in slot, 1 above slot. 4 flounders and 2 trout. Several missed fish and opportunities for many more. Overall great trip, Captain Hunter is a great guide and good around kids. Definitely recommend it and going again.
