Head out on a Pulaski, NY Salmon fishing trip for some of the best angling action on the East Coast. This upstate New York town has access to several premier fishing grounds, teeming with Chinook and Coho Salmon. Sounds exciting, right? It is! Aside from being delicious, Chinook and Coho Salmon both put up a great fight. They’re seasonal creatures, so where you’ll fish for them will depend on the time of year. In the spring and summer months, head to Lake Ontario’s nearshore and offshore waters. Both fish like their waters cold and deep.

Come early September, switch your focus to the river mouths and creeks that act as tributaries for Lake Ontario. Chinook Salmon make the pilgrimage first, and hit peak numbers in early October. You’re more likely to find Coho Salmon in the second half of the month. When spawning, these fish get incredibly aggressive, so gear up with heavy tackle!

Salmon aren’t always easy to catch and the more time you can spend on the water, the better. Enlist a local guide and head out on a full day trip to do battle and take a few fish home for dinner. If you’ve only got a half day to spare, a spring or summer trolling trip could put you on a fish or two.

Without a doubt, the majority of anglers visiting Pulaski come to fish the Salmon River. From September to early November, it’s the hottest spot for spawning Salmon. For especially productive fishing here, head to the Douglaston Salmon Run. From April–August, turn your attention to Lake Ontario’s deeper waters.
