Chinook Salmon Fishing in Oregon

Looking to hook into Salmon? The Beaver State is one of the best places to visit. You’ll find this species inhabiting a wide range of fisheries, including the many rivers, bays, and 300+ miles of coastline on offer. No matter when you visit and where you want to cast a line, you’ll be able to chase Salmon to your heart’s content alongside one of the many Oregon Salmon fishing guides!

Chinook is the most sought-after Salmonid in the state, both in the rivers and the coastal bays. The Columbia River in particular is famous for the huge Chinook, or “Kings,” that it produces. That’s not all, though. Coho and Sockeye Salmon also join the mix, meaning it’s possible to target up to five different Salmon runs while casting a line here. Knowing where these fish spend their time is important, as the bite can change on a daily basis.

Salmon season kicks off in March when Chinook enter Oregon’s rivers, such as the Willamette and Columbia. Come summer, the “June Hog” Chinook run begins, which is when trophy-sized fish can be targeted! Fall sees both Coho and Chinook congregate around Astoria’s Buoy 10 fishery. If you’ll be casting a line along the coast and in the bays, both Coho and Chinook Salmon fishing picks up during the fall and stays strong until the end of the year.

Oregon’s Salmon fishing guides can be found dotted all over the state, and tend to move with the seasons. Plan your Salmon fishing adventure in August, for example, and you’ll find plenty of charters congregated around the Astoria area. Local guides offer trips running anywhere from a few hours on the water to extended full day trips. Shorter trips are perfect for beginners, whereas longer trips will give you plenty of time to chase that trophy Salmon!

Caleb was unable to make the trip due to a family emergency but solved the problem before we even knew! He found another guide to cover the trip (Kyle - shoutout) and we caught two AWESOME sized chinook salmon! Caleb and Kyle both seem like awesome individuals and super knowledgeable about fishing! Highly recommend either one of them! Also the donuts at the drop spot we had in Nehalem called Pacific Roots Coffee and Mini Donuts!

Great Day on the River
5/5
We had a great time fishing with Brian, his boat and equipment were top notch, would definitely recommend to others and will be booking again in the future. He worked very diligently to get me and my 9 year old son a spring Chinook Salmon. When we tagged out on the salmon we went crabbing landing a bunch of giant Dungeness crab then focused on steelhead. All in all a very great day on the river
