I planned this trip as a surprise and really wanted him to have an authentic experience . Not a luxurious non relatable one. We took both of our boys that also love fishing . We all ended up getting super sea sick except my husband and we had to go to shallow waters otherwise we couldn’t make it. The captain was super caring and even put a break in for us so we could get little better. Unfortunately my husband didn’t get the catch he probably dreamed of but next time he will for sure take the same boat with the same best captain except leave his family at home or the resorts. I had a good day aboard the elimar, captained by Marcel.
I had asked if we could start earlier than the listing online as personally I have always found the fishing best just as the sun rises. We did not go as early as this but it was kindly brought forward. I was picked up at 6:20 by a driver named Valentin (organised by marcel at a reasonable cost, slightly cheaper than the hotel). He was ready and waiting for me so very organised. At the end of the trip he was waiting for me as the boat returned and so whisked me away (he also took both cash and card which was useful).

Captain Marcel was a consummate professional seemingly trying a variety of lures as well as replacing the partially eaten baitfish (believe cut in half by barracuda ) frequently. He was engaging giving updates, plans, past catches, etc which was reassuring.

About 1 hour in we caught the first fish a wahoo of about 8kg, approximately 1.3m in length. This I was told was about 1/4 to 1/3 of the weight of the one they caught the day before, but at least we go one. Later on as we neared the island and the main fishing ground we caught a total of 4 smallish barracuda, and a small albacore tuna. For the last few hours of the trip unfortunately we did not catch anything. 

A day or so later I asked Marcel for the details of the driver which he happily provided which was useful for another day on my trip where I needed a taxi.

The English of Marcel is on the more limited end, but he tried hard and uses his phone to translate when the topic is more complicated. So was not an issue.

In conclusion I would definitely recommend Marcel and the Elimar. He was a consummate professional, seemed to try hard to find fish as well as having a good local knowledge of the fishing grounds. The trip was also pretty reasonably priced, especially in comparison to the alternatives in the local area. I also walked away having caught my first ever Wahoo, so very happy all in all.

Did try to get another trip booked before the end of my holiday but unfortunately he was full. The good reviews are definitely representative and I hope to return.

Really good trip with marcell he’s a knowledgeable fisherman we had a few difficulties with a boat engine problem early on in the day (which was nobody’s fault all engines need repair sometimes) so he immediately offered us to go back to shore to make the repair and start the trip the next morning which I couldn’t do as I was going home the next day, he then quickly arranged an replacement boat to get us back out on the water for the afternoon fishing a different style on a smaller boat so we could catch some barracuda at the very least. Would recommend this guide and I will be back next year hopefully for some Marlin!

We live in Key West and have years of offshore fishing experience. Staying in the La Romana area we wanted to see what it was like in the Dominican. The location is very convenient and our party of four actually left 15mins early. This is a trolling trip for big game fish such as Mahi, Wahoo, Marlin etc so for anyone who knows you could troll the 4hrs and get nothing or you could get the big ones, nothing guaranteed. About halfway thru the trip we got into a nice Mahi catch and everyone had a great time. Whether you catch or not I highly recommend Marcel and this trip. He was very attentive to changing baits and doing everything he could to catch fish. The price was fair and you won’t be disappointed.

Marcel Brito is an outstanding captain!  He replied quickly and accurately to my questions before the fishing trip.
Fishing was slow the first couple of hours but we then hooked into a 110 lb blue marlin.  Took at least 30 minutes to reel in with lots of help from captain Marcel.  After the trip we went to an area where the marlin could be hung up for display and photos taken with me.  The marlin was about a foot taller than me!
This truly was the fishing trip of a lifetime.  Marcel is highly knowledgeable, worked hard to help land the fish, and is a very caring man.  I highly recommend this captain and fishing trip.
