Fresh Poacher Sportfishing Charters Fishing Reports
4/20/18 Outer Banks Inshore Fishing Repo
April 28, 2018
The water is starting to finally warm up after a long cold winter and spring. Yesterday 4/27 I fished a 1/2 day along the beach and the bottom was covered with bait and fish marks. Sea mullet fisherman were doing well in these marks and had reported a few large red drum. We drifted in them catching grey trout, croakers, blow toads and a 30lb red drum. I look for the bluefish to show up next week and more red drum to be reported. Also cobia should start running in the Hatteras area and the amberjacks will be on the wrecks. Back in the sound a friend of mine reported speckled trout, flounder, bluefish and small puppy drum. That's the first of that in the sound as well. Each day with warming temps fishing will pick up and by May 10th it should be game on. Thank you, Devin Cage

Oct Is King Mackerel season On The Outer
October 8, 2017
Fished the last couple of days 10/7& 10/8 with half-day trips and enjoyed good catches of king mackerel to 20lbs. Also mixed in were false albacores and a few large Spanish mackerel. We catch king mackerel out of Oregon Inlet throughout the whole month of Oct and into the first of Nov. Schoolie striper action has been great back in the sound on days we cant get in the ocean. I've landed over 300 of them in the past couple of weeks. Limit is 2 per person and they have to be 18" long.

Oct Can Be Red Hot Fishing On The Outer
September 30, 2017
Catch and release rockfish ( striped bass) has been excellent on the schoolies for the past 2 weeks, I've landed over 45 on several trips along with a couple of nice catches of speckled trout. The season for them opens tomorrow 10/1 with 2 per person over 18". Out in the ocean we usually are hitting the inshore wrecks this time of year but with the passing hurricanes its been difficult getting out the inlet. Maybe all that's behind us and we can enjoy a good Oct. Out on the wrecks in Oct we are usually catching false albacores in the 5lb-12lb range, king mackerel 4lbs-15lbs, Spanish mackerel 2lbs, triggerfish and sea bass while bottom fishing. I run charters the whole month of Oct both in the ocean and in the sound rock fishing. Good luck, Devin Cage

No hurricane Irma For The Outer Banks..
September 10, 2017
The hurricane that never came went into the gulf, thank the lord! Last week we enjoyed excellent fishing from big Spanish mackerel and 1lb blues in tight to the beaches. False albacores ( 5lbs-12lbs) smoking our spoons in the 70ft range. The wrecks have been producing lots of good eating triggerfish along with a few keeper sea bass. Plenty of sharks around eating our rigs off, we pitch baits to them on spinners for a good fight. Back in the sound the light tackle boats are slamming the speckled trout and this week they've hit the big red drum. Fishing only get's better between now and Nov here on the Outer Banks of NC. Thank you, Devin Cage

9/3 Outer Banks Inshorer Fishing Report
September 3, 2017
We've really struggled with the weather for the past week. Big swell rolled in and lots of rain and thunderstorms. I got out several times between storms. Today we hit a wreck and had a catch of triggerfish and nice bluefish while drifting it. Also missed a shark on a live bait rig. Plenty of throw back sea bass. In along the beach keeper Spanish mackerel were hitting in the 30-40ft range along with 1lb blues. It's time for the false albacores to show up. We need to get some cleaner water in here and with all the bait around they'd show. Look for good action from 7lb-12lb albacores, triggerfish on the wrecks with a few sea bass, big Spanish out in the sloughs and hopefully some kings in the next few weeks. Let's roll give me a call! Thank you Devin Cage
