Trip Summary

With the wealth of prime spring fishing opportunity behind us, summer trips can seem more like work. This time of year I find myself scouting new lakes or lakes I don’t yet guide on because I just don’t have them figured out yet. The familiar feeling of knowing a lake is comforting. That being said, it is nice to have options. Right now panfish are feeling very familiar, almost no matter where I go. Fish are relating heavily to weed beds, and you’ll find them on the edges. Outside weed edges are my favorite this time of year. Mostly because they coincide with depth changes but also because it keeps us out of the weeds when feeling in fish. The bite has been intermittent on crappie but when using Stan’s slip bobbers and minnows, it is steady. Perch have been caught using perch rigs and Swedish Pimples jigged off bottom. I like to add a perch fly about 2 feet above the jig by using a loop knot. I’ve picked up some nice “bonus” crappie this way without any bait at all. Come out and fish, summer patterns are consistent!
