Seth made our time amazing on our 5-hour fishing trip out of Kona.  My boys (16 and 14) gave me our fishing trip as my Fathers Day/Birthday gift.  As soon as we got to the parking lot, Seth was welcoming us and began telling us about our day ahead of us.  Seth had constant stories about his 30+ years of fishing and had amazing knowledge of the fish we would encounter, underwater geography, you name it….he is the “Bill Nye that Science Guy” of fishing.  My boys and I had as much fun learning all about his fishing stories, his knowledge on all the fish, and some cool info about the Big Island as fishing.  His boat looks brand new with all the cool gadgets with big couch like seating.  Seth brought us to a few spots where we saw Tuna thrashing at the surface, saw a ton of Pilot whales, flying fish…and then got the spot that was amazing.  Within 5 minutes my youngest and I both had a fish…my youngest caught a Mu fish, which is a rare one to catch by pole and I caught a trigger fish.  My youngest was getting pictures with his fish, I latched onto a monster that we fought for an hour and pulled up a 7ft Gray Reef shark that was about 120-130 lbs.  It was awesome….my oldest and I took turns pulling it up.  We had 30lb line on the pole and it was only through Seth’s coaching we were able to get the shark to the boat without the line snapping.  Turns out they are on the endangered list, so that bad boy swam away to do more shark things.  He was very strong.  The guesses for what was on the line kept going, until we could get an eye on it. We had an awesome day.  If you get a chance to go out with Seth…you won’t regret it.

During my trip to Kona, I went out on three different fishing charters — and hands down, the best experience was with Captain Seth. While many charters in the area focus solely on marlin fishing, Captain Seth takes a different and much more rewarding approach. He targets a wide variety of species using multiple fishing techniques, which means you’re not just sitting around waiting for that one elusive bite. With him, the odds of catching fish are incredibly high — we actually caught fish, unlike many other boats in the harbor!
This style of fishing is perfect for vacationers who want to ensure they catch something and have fun doing it. It’s especially great for families or kids, since it’s far more engaging than just high-speed trolling all day (which can get old fast, especially for younger passengers).
What really sets Captain Seth apart is that he’s both the owner and the operator. This means he’s genuinely invested in making sure you have an amazing experience. He’s not just clocking in — he truly cares, and it shows in every part of the trip. His level of hospitality and attention to detail is unmatched. It’s the kind of personalized, passionate service you just don’t get with corporate-run boats.
I can’t recommend Captain Seth enough. If you’re in Kona and want to make some unforgettable memories while actually catching fish and having a blast, this is the guy to go with. He’s awesome — plain and simple.

Had an amazing morning on the water with the Blue Zone, I hope that I will be back again fishing with the Captain someday in the near future. An extremely knowledgeable Captain and just an overall amazing man to be around. Even though the weather wasn’t perfect he had us on fish and we all had a blast. The boat was beautiful and all the gear was top notch. You always have high expectations before an outing like this and when we left we all felt that those were met and exceeded! Thanks Captain for making our time on the island even better than we hopped for, came for fishing left with great memories and a new friend!

My husband and I recently went on a fishing trip with the Blue Zone Fishing Team, and it was an incredible experience from start to finish.

Captain Seth was outstanding—he was responsive, accommodating, and made sure everything went smoothly despite our unique schedule. We arrived in Kona aboard the Norwegian Cruise Line’s Pride of America, which didn’t dock until 7:00 AM. Most fishing charters depart around 6:00 AM, but Captain Seth worked with our timing without hesitation. After catching a tender boat to shore, we were fortunate to get a ride to the marina from one of the deckhands, Rick. On the way back, we used Uber to return to the port.

The boat itself was clean, spacious, and well-equipped for deep-sea fishing. Both Captain Seth and Rick made us feel comfortable right away. Their energy, knowledge, and friendliness set a great tone for the day. Seth’s passion for fishing is truly contagious—he goes above and beyond to share that passion with his guests. Even though we’ve been on other fishing trips before, we learned so much from him. He encouraged us to be as hands-on as we wanted, which made the experience even more engaging.
Safety was always a priority, but so was the thrill of the catch. Captain Seth worked hard to put us on the fish—and it paid off! We hooked three and landed two. My husband was thrilled to finally land a “big one,” and we both left with huge smiles and unforgettable memories.

Captain Seth is amazing! Clean nice boat!!! We are a bunch of fishing newbies and only booked for 4 hr trip. Captain located fish very quickly in the morning but we lost it. Then we had no luck and went to shore fishing and hooked up a green kawaii strange fish hahaha very fun. Some of us had sea sick, was offered ginger chew to recover. Then captain didn’t give up, sent us back to blue water and we caught a tuna!🍣 Captain took great care of us, cut us pineapple and provided cold drinks on the boat. Also sashimi the fish for us :) super fresh and good taste! Hope we come back next time for a longer trip and catch other species!!!
