Lots of shrimp!
Had a very good time with the Captain John and First Mate, both were very polite and knowledgeable. They encouraged interaction with hauling in the shrimp nets, sorting, and taught us how to bait using crabs we caught shrimping. Something that my family has not done before (lobsters, crabs, and clams done already). The Captain was upfront about not having a good turn out with his crab pots that week and did not want us wasting time on something he didn't feel was going to be successful. After sorting and bagging two laundry baskets of large shrimp we headed out to the bridge pilings and managed to land a large Black Drum. We were entertained with many other catch and release fish. Overall a great time for us as we looked to fulfill another first time experience. Be sure to bring a cooler with ice to keep your catch fresh. Captain John directed us to a local packing facility (Fresh Catch Seafood in Wanchese - absolutely amazing people) who cleaned, brined and flash froze our abundant haul of shrimp for a very reasonable price ensuring our catch will keep until its all consumed, even with a 12 hour drive home.
