Hi Niall, sorry about your “rubbish experience”.  To be able to take 2 beautiful fish home, loose 3 other very large fish and to land many smaller fish on a four hour charter is what I would consider a good day.  Regarding “grabbing the rods”, on our boat, we do not let our guests pull the rod out of the rod holders simply because we’ve watched too many people have trouble doing so and even breaking our gear in trying.  If you had simply asked me about it I would have explained this to you.  Also, it is very common practice for west coast guides to pull the rods out of the rod holders, set the hook and then hand them to their guests.  Regarding the “reeling it in”, this was simply 30 seconds or so to explain to everyone how to fight a very large salmon (and ok, sorry about my enthusiasm).  I did explain to everyone the procedure of keeping the rods up, facing the fish, staying with me during the fight and keep tension on the line. And I don’t know what you mean by “taking over the photo opportunities”.  Anyways, it seems as if there was a lot of miscommunication going on and for that I apologize.
