Fishing in Cocoa Beach

Cocoa Beach fishing charters hold the key to experiencing some of the best saltwater fishing this side of Florida. Located along the beautiful Space Coast, this beachside community is home to white sands, plenty of attractions, and a seriously diverse fishery. In fact, there are  so many waterways to choose from that only 5 of this city’s 15 square miles are on dry land!

Want to experience excellent inshore fishing and stunning scenery at the same time? Head to the incredible Thousand Islands, accessible only by boat. This collection of mangrove islands is home to Snook, Trout, and Ladyfish, as well as manatees, dolphins, and a variety of birdlife. Half day trips are available, but a full day adventure will allow you to really escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

Cocoa Beach also backs onto the prolific Banana River, which is the perfect place for newer anglers to cast a line on a half day trip. You’ll encounter anything from Spotted Seatrout to  Redfish, Snook, and Tarpon in these marshy waters.

For deep sea enthusiasts, the mighty Atlantic Ocean laps at the shoreline of Cocoa Beach. Travel a few minutes to Port Canaveral, and you'll find plenty of offshore fishing charters that’ll help you battle Cobia, Mahi Mahi, Sailfish, and Wahoo. Opt for a full or extended full day trip to really test your strength and skills! Closer to shore, Black Drum, Cobia, and King Mackerel are particularly plentiful.

Whatever a Florida fishing trip means to you, chances are you’ll find it in Cocoa Beach. Charters can be found throughout the city, offering trips for anglers of all skill levels and preferences, so just hop aboard.

Rules & Regulations

Casting off alongside a charter captain means that your fishing license will be covered for you, as well as your fishing gear. Some of Cocoa Beach’s species are subject to strict bag and season limits, and your captain will make sure you’re aware of these on your trip.

Cocoa Beach Fishing Seasons

January

Get the year off to a great start in January! Inshore, look for large schools of Black Drum in the local canals and creeks. Offshore, you can find Kingfish, Blackfin Tuna, and more.

February

Cocoa Beach fishing is as good as ever in February. Combine fishing for Speckled Trout, Black Drum, and Redfish with visiting a local Mardi Gras festival. That's enough to dispel the winter blues!

March

Come to Cocoa Beach in March, and you'll find one word on the lips of all the local fisherfolk. That word is Cobia. Sight fish for them near the beaches as they swim northwards alongside giant Manta Rays.

April

Things start to get really exciting. Cobia fishing is still at its peak, and these brown migratory fish start to be joined by a regal cohort: Tarpon, aka the "Silver King." This is also a good time to catch slot Redfish near Cocoa Beach.

May

Fish off the Space Coast's beaches in May, and you can add Jack Crevalle to your list of target species. These yellow and white fish may not be a good species for the table, but they will give you a fight to remember.

June

June is peak season for fishing on the Space Coast, and it's no surprise. The biggest Tarpon start to arrive now. Try catching one of these 150+ lb monsters in shallow water! Offshore, the fishing is as good as it gets.

July

Everyone is talking about Tarpon and King Mackerel on the beaches of the Space Coast. Fish for a full day offshore, and you might even be able to catch a Sailfish and Wahoo, too.

August

Inshore fishing explodes at the end of August. The highlight is the amazing Snook bite along the beaches. As soon as the fall Mullet run begins, look for large schools of hungry Snook chasing these baitfish through the surf.

September

September is a great time to come fishing in Cocoa Beach. The crowds disperse at this time of year, just in time for the Bull Redfish run. Look for schools of up to 1,000 hungry Reds. This is a sight you won't forget!

October

Inshore fishing continues to give as good as it's got. The schools of Bull Redfish are still around, and are joined by an increased bite from big Spotted Seatrout. Offshore, Kingfish, Sailfish, and Wahoo are biting.

November

Come to Cocoa Beach in late fall and you'll find quiet beaches and some of the best fishing of the year. The flats are thriving with Bull Reds and Gator Trout. There's certainly a lot to be thankful for this month!

December

As the waters cool, most of the game fish move into deeper holes and canals in the Cocoa Beach area. Large schools of Black Drum congregate on the flats. Don't miss the Cocoa Beach Boat Parade to get into the Christmas spirit.
