Make sure you bring a cooler and Ice if you plan on keeping fish to cook during your stay or bring a way to store and transport it til you get back to your lodging. It is chilly on the water so bring more layers than you are expecting to need. Rain gear would also be a great idea to have on hand if necessary.

Take the newly paved road through Port Alberni - not the logging road! The Hacas hotel in Bamfield was the bare minimum for a fishing trip (it was clean enough but DO NOT bring your wife to this hotel).

It gets busy there in the summer - book ahead if possible and find accommodation at the same time, places fill up fast. Catch My Drift charters helped with our booking and suggested places to stay, we'd recommend looking into their charters for sure.

Bring rain gear and waterproof attire and layer up with warm clothing. June can be cold and rainy. Also I would avoid going on a long weekend. There were many boats on the water so it would be a better experience with less boat traffic for sure.

Absolutely! There are plenty of fishes and weather is good but be prepared of sea sickness and ways to prevent it. Check the waves too just in case you get sick with movement of boats due to waves.

Not a lot of fishing boats out, so hardly any competition. We were able to catch our limit for the day. I am sure if we stayed out longer we could have got Halibut as well, since the other boat did in the same area.

Myself and 6 of my friends visiting Tofino booked the 2 hour fishing trip with Captain Richard and it was the best. Captain Jeff is extremely knowledgeable and great fun, we didn’t stop laughing while onboard. I will definitely be coming back and fishing with Jeff again.

This was our second annual trip, and it was just as fantastic as the first! We caught lots of fish, had a great time, and Dane made sure everything ran smoothly. He knows the area better than any other guide out there—you can really tell he’s got years of experience and local knowledge. We felt completely safe and comfortable the whole time. Can’t wait to come back again next year!

Jeff was an absolute treat! Hilarious guy, seasoned captain and great guide. We got into some great salmon and rockfish, felt extremely safe on the water, and really enjoyed our day out there.
His boat is a bit older and takes a bit longer to get where you need to go but it was so comfy, and cozy with a full heated cabin and bathroom. And it’s huge so plenty of room to sit outside, fight fish and felt very safe in the water.

Awesome! Best fishing experience ever. We highly recommend James at Maximum Coastal Adventures as he is a true professional guide and knows the waters and where to fish. This was quite evident with us catching our Chinook quota in the first hour. He then took us us to reefs and areas where we where we were able to catch a good size Ling COD, 6 Black Rock fish and the trifecta, a good size Halibut.

Luc & Joel are amazing captains, super knowledgeable and welcoming not to mention hilarious.We went for lingcod and came back successful and had an unreal day on the water. We went out on their boat the Screamin’ Eagle. It was super comfortable, lots of room and very organized.
If you’re thinking of booking with Strawberry Island Fishing Charters I highly recommend it. We can’t wait to be back!

Joel took us to the Hot Springs and than we went fishing for 2 hours and caught 8 fish!!! Joel and Luc were fantastic and had a great sense of humour!!

Absolutely fantastic day with captain joel and luc. They took us to the hot springs first thing in the morning which is a great way for start the day and wake up get to take a 30 minute walk to a beautiful hot spring, very relaxing nice way to reconnect with earth. Than went fishing joel and luc are amazing fishing teachers as well as very funny and overall great to be around.
