What anglers say about Yellow Bass fishing
- 5.0/5(Full Day)
I thought the guide was very knowledgeable and he was very enjoyable to be around. If I went fishing again I would request him as a guide. He worked real hard for us to get fish.
We caught fish. Our guide worked very hard for us to have a grading experience. We caught 80 yellow bass. He was very knowledgeable on the area and changed our technique of fishing. For five times to make sure that we had the greatest experience we could possibly have I would recommend him highly.

Great day fishing.
Last minute idea to go fishing while staying at Clear Lake, Iowa. It was a grat way to spend time with my 13yr old daughter outside a sports field. Found Joe, booked a trip and went ripping lips. We did a morning fish and caught close to 80 fish between the two of us. She caught 50 herself. If your in the area look Joe up you wont be disappointed.

About Yellow Bass fishing
Yellow Bass are lively Panfish that love to school and feed fast. Anglers target them for constant action, light-tackle fun, and tasty, mild fillets. Yellow Bass fishing is all about quick bites, steady hook-ups, and the chance to catch several fish in one spot.
Light spinning gear works best. Use small jigs, spinners, and spoons, or live minnows and worms. Try jigging, which means lifting and dropping a lure to trigger strikes. Cast around points, drop-offs, and submerged brush. In clear water, match small bait fish with natural colors. When fish stack deep, vertical jigging under the boat is hard to beat.
Expect a fast-paced, family-friendly trip with lots of hits when you find a school. These fish fight above their size and are perfect for beginners and kids. Bring a light rod, small tackle box, and a landing net. Pack sun protection, polarized glasses to spot structure, and a cooler with ice if you plan to keep fish where allowed. Early morning and late afternoon often see more surface activity, but action can happen all day when fish are schooled.
Before you go, check local regulations. Confirm the required fishing license or permit, open seasons, and harvest rules for the water you will fish. Some areas have special size or bag limits, gear restrictions, or closed zones. Always follow local laws and practice responsible handling and release.
