Haddock are classic New England Groundfish, prized for firm, white fillets and steady action. Maine sits on the Gulf of Maine, where cold, clean waters hold strong Haddock stocks. This makes “Haddock fishing in Maine, United States” a smart choice for anglers who want tasty fish and reliable bites.

Captains target Haddock by bottom fishing over gravel, sand, and shell beds. Simple bait rigs with clams or squid work very well. Many crews also use jigs or teasers to keep baits just off the bottom. Your captain will watch the sounder and drift across ledges and humps until the school stays on the screen.

Most trips run on safe, seaworthy boats with quality rods, reels, and tackle provided. The ride can be a bit offshore, so expect cooler air and some chop. Dress in layers, wear non‑slip shoes, and pack sun protection and snacks. This is a great trip for families, first‑timers, and anyone who loves filling the cooler with delicious fillets.

Maine offers broad, proven areas for Haddock. Boats from Kittery and Portland often work the Gulf of Maine near Jeffreys Ledge. Crews from Portland and Harpswell reach productive edges outside Casco Bay and Saco Bay. Farther east, charters from Boothbay Harbor, Rockland, and Bar Harbor fish Penobscot Bay and Downeast waters when conditions allow.

Before you go, check current Maine saltwater fishing license or registry rules, along with federal Groundfish regulations. Seasons, permitted areas, and harvest rules can change. Your captain will keep you compliant, but every angler should review the latest guidance before the trip.

    (6 Hour Trip – Ground Fishing - 1:00 PM)

    Best trip ever!

Captain Chris had the spot and put us right on the fish. We caught tons of fish. Cod (which are not in season so didn't get to keep those), Haddock, Pollock, Atlantic Red Fish, and a few others. We'll be eating fish for days!

    Great day on the water!

Overall it was an awesome day! We went offshore and caught plenty of haddock and cusk. We were blessed by a pod of humpback whales who swam by and hung out for a while. We were close enough to hear them talking…maybe they were telling us to leave some fish for them haha 😆

(Full Day Trip – Deep Sea Fishing)

    Wow,what a long, strange trip…

It was my 15-year-old son’s first time catching a striper! Amazing experience! We filled the boat with haddock and laughs. We had a blast with Captain Larry and his first mate Oscar (Pronounced Oz-kah). Captain Larry came from a long line of captains before him, Bly, Ahab, Morgan, the skippah from Gilligan's Island! He’s right up there with the best! The captain can put you on the fish! He won’t disappoint! Book a chatah with him! You’ll be glad you did.

(4 Hour Trip - blue hill)

Captain Jonathan made the most of a trip when the fish weren't biting. Super fun trip and great conversation. He knows the area well and could not have been nicer. Highly recommend.

Captain Jonathan was patient, knowledgeable, and kind to us out-of-state rusty fishermen! He made what could have been disappointing (fish weren't biting) a very fun experience.
