Seattle Lingcod Fishing Seasons

Lingcod are hard-hitting Groundfish known for aggressive strikes and firm, tasty fillets. Seattle puts you close to rocky structure in central Puget Sound, including reefs and kelp lines near Elliott Bay and Bainbridge Island. Short runs, big city views, and reliable action make this a favorite local trip.
Most charters target Lingcod with inshore bottom fishing around rocks, wrecks, and ledges. Captains use stout rods and braided line for strong currents and quick bite detection. You will drop metal jigs or soft plastics to the bottom, or use bait like Herring or Squid where allowed. Lift and pause the lure to trigger reaction bites. Daily tide and current set the plan.
Trips often leave at first light to hit the best tide window. Runs are short, and you usually fish within sight of the skyline. This is hands-on fishing that suits beginners and kids, with patient coaching from the crew. Experienced anglers enjoy precise jigging and steady action. Dress in layers for changing weather, and wear non-slip shoes. Bring sun protection, snacks, water, and motion sickness medicine if needed. The crew normally provides rods, tackle, and safety gear.
Seattle’s Lingcod fishery is tightly managed. Seasons, areas, and harvest rules can change each year. Some zones may be open for catch-and-release only. Always check your fishing license, permit needs, season dates, and retention rules before your trip. Your captain will review current regulations and safe handling on board.
What anglers said about Lingcod Fishing in Seattle
- 5.0/5(Lingcod Morning Trip)
Great trip
We had a lot of fun fishing with Captain Thao. He is quite knowledge about the area and had us catching our limit of lingcod quickly. Great communication and instructions. Would have liked to get some flounder as well, but instead we went for another lingcod for the captains limit but unfortunately wasn't able to get it. Had a great time and would recommend a trip with capt Thao any day.

Wonderful day fishing!
We booked this Lingcod trip for my husband's birthday. it could not have been any better. The weather was fantastic. Zach and Daniel were great. Everything was explained clearly. They worked tirelessly keeping poles rigged, getting us to promising spots. We caught 1 35" and 1 33" Lincod. They were friendly and informative. We will be rebooking in the future.

Great experience with Captain Thao
We had an unforgettable day with Captain Thao! Our group of 6 were mostly first-time fishers, but thanks to Thao’s guidance and patience, we were able to catch a bunch of fish. We caught lingcod, rockfish, and even salmon — although some had to be released because they were out of season. Captain Thao was friendly, knowledgeable, and made the whole experience fun and exciting for everyone. Highly recommend for both beginners and experienced fishers alike!
