Known around the world as “the world’s luckiest fishing village,” the angling opportunities for Redfish Destin has to offer definitely live up to this reputation! Destin provides access to a variety of fishing grounds that this fish thrives in, providing plenty of opportunity for anglers of all skill levels to hook this Floridian favorite. Come and find out just how lucky these waters are!

What to Expect

A visit to Choctawhatchee Bay, north of Destin, is a must for newbies and experienced anglers alike. If you’re a budding angler, charter captains suggest opting for a half day trip, which will give you plenty of time to explore the shallows around Destin’s shore, as well as heading out to the deeper waters around Mid-Bay Bridge, where huge Bull Reds lurk.

More experience under your belt? Plenty of captains here will take you to “Destin Pass,” where the bay meets the Gulf. These waters are usually pretty fast-moving and tumultuous, and are a great place to test your light tackle skills against huge Bulls!

If you’re willing to travel further east, you’ll have the opportunity to drop lines in the plentiful Hogtown Bayou as you make your way to the Choctawhatchee River. Both of these locations offer up more local-style fishing, with fly fishing and light tackle being the norm here. It’s the perfect area for Redfish enthusiasts to earn some serious bragging rights!

How to Prepare

Destin’s captains know better than most how important it is to make sure guests are “hooked up” with top-quality fishing gear, so you’ll be provided with everything you need for your day on the water. Just bring your favorite snacks and drinks, and get ready to try your luck against some huge Redfish in the world’s luckiest fishing village!

What anglers said about Redfish Fishing in Destin

It's been a little tough with the rip current advisory, but dispite the water being a little rough the charter was a success.

Be prepared for cooler weather on the water and at speed on the boatโ€ฆ...layer your clothing. Sunglasses, hats a must! It sure beats sweltering in the summer heat though!!

Definitely would recommend Captain Chad for first time anglers of any age. He has the patience and knowledge needed for that first time angler to motivate them to keep fishing in the future.

I fish here every October and we always seem to catch fish. Be prepared for high seas and be sure to take Dramamine to keep your stomach settled.

For first timers, try a four-hour nearshore charter, but if you want to deep sea fish you will probably need a full day. We booked with Captain Jayson Self on the King of Kings boat, a 38-footer with covered area and a toilet. Captain Jayson & Juan were very helpful and fun to be with. Having a great captain, crew, and a boat with a covered area and toilet makes for a great trip. We caught 35+ fish which also makes for a great charter!

Go out to federal waters if you want to get bigger fish this time of year. Still fun to fish in state waters though, and you might get lucky!

The fish werenโ€™t biting heavily today, but we were able to catch about 2 lbs of fish for dinner.

Try one of the party boats first round out. It's an inexpensive way to get a taste of the area and you have a ton of space to get out of the sun if needed.

Verify what you are going to catch, I personally thought we would be catching bigger fish. Also fish booker made it nearly impossible to get in touch with the captain prior to our trip.

Charter Into the Blue and Captain Nino with First Mate Caden! They are friendly and fun and so knowledgeable!! On top of their game. Literally you will not be disappointed. Our boys have always wanted to go deep sea fishing and now they are literally โ€œhookedโ€. And they both say we can ONLY go on this boat with this crew!! A new family tradition!!
