What would you recommend to anglers fishing in Coco, Guanacaste for the first time?

I really have little good to say about this fishing experience. I have fished on the Pacific Ocean for approximately 30 years and this may have been my worst outing, especially for the amount of money I spent.

Over priced and not very friendly. We went fishing the next day with a guy (the annoying ones that try selling you everything under the sun) from the beach at our resort for $1200 less for the exact same boat and actually caught fish and they cut it on the boat and made ceviche! Save your money and find a guy on the beach!! I figured paying more would get us a better experience but oh was I wrong!

We saw many schools busting on the surface. Weather was great. We were not successful, so I can't relate if the fishing is good or not. As they say, "Fishing is not necessarily catching". The day was fun, the scenery was beautiful. The captain and crew were great. The boat was clean and reliable.

Book with seastar all the guys are very professional and absolutely great friendly people who went above and beyond to please us with not just the fishing but catering and great conversation . I shall be booking with these guys next year as they made me want to visit Costa Rica again as soon as I can

If you want massive fish, you have to go deep. If you’re going for meat you can pull from shallow water, if you want pictures and a fight spend the money and go 20 miles out

The 26' boat was a little too small and rocky for my 2 friends, they got a little sick. But! I didnt get sick at all and snagged a beautiful and delicious mahi

Crew, boat and gear were great. Fishing was poor. Never saw or had a fish chase our baits while trolling. Maybe casting in toward the rocks would have produced more fish or having live bait.

Fishing is good, I have had success. Fishing this trip was bad because the captain was did adjust the fishing technique when it was agreed they would if it wasn't productive

Learn Spanish. Don’t expect to much, just go out and catch whatever bites. Enjoy the scenery in between fish. You’ll have fun.

Just get out there and give it a shot. It’s a great spot to fish if not the best and this crew will put you on fish!

For the money, a full day offshore trip gives you the best opportunity to target several species without feeling rushed.

Communicate with your captain what fish you want to target. Make sure the boat/weather lines up with what you want to do.

Maybe not fish the whole time for billfish and work harder to catch tuna, wahoo and dorado.
