During the early months, still prepare to go out with warm layers. A warm sun doesn’t cut the chill from the air when the boat is tearing off to find a new fishing spot. A warm hat and gloves can save you a considerable amount of discomfort.

Be open minded and ready for a great day. We chose the half day because we brought two ten year olds but, I think the full day would also be a great choice. Bring snacks and drinks but the Captain has bottled water and a place to go to the bathroom if you need to.

If you are in the salt there's fish everywhere, however any brackish water could have many factors contributing to your success. Salinity, temp, wind direction, and even atmospheric pressure are all factors in this shallower water and can change from week to week.

This is not the best time to fish it was extremely hot for the day high 90's which made the fish non aggressive. We got some quality fish but limited in amount of fish. There are certainly better times of the year to fish, this was a tag on to the end of a cruise my wife booked so not my choice of time. However it was a dream come true for me regardless

I recommend proper attire. The long sleeve fishing shirts and shorts or pants, and a hat to keep the sun off of you. Sunscreen and bottled water is a must. No flip flops, they can be slick. Need a shoe with grip.
Lisa Choinski
Bring UV long sleeve shirt & a hat!!!! This is necessary! UV neck/face cover and pants would be beneficial too or at least SPF 50 and apply several times. It’s super important as the sun reflects off the water too and you can get really burnt if you don’t have this.

As with most fishing, small changes in weather can have a huge impact on the bite. April through June are great times for fishing in NOLA as the weather is usually warm and stable. Early season vs. late season can be totally different experiences as well.

Avoid staying in the city! People drive like maniacs!! Our car was totaled by a speeding truck while I was turning at an intersection the first morning here. Loud town. Out on the lakes was peaceful and laidback, but New Orleans was nuts!

Review with your Captain ahead of trip. Be respectful, they are up wayyy before you get there. As a Charter Passenger you can purchase a three day salt water and a three day fresh water licenses for total of $30- out of state licenses. Bring rain gear- jacket and pants. Wear non marking water proof shoes/ boots. Bring a neck hoodie, extra layer. Weather changes fast and isn’t always accurate.

The environment is beautiful, salt water species, some fresh water mixed in depending on salinity levels means you never know what you.may catch. The lakes and bayous are huge...dont forget bug spray ( though capt. Had some to use)
Abraham Ramirez
Absolutely, fishing with captain Brad made it so you just purchase your license (online, quick and easy) then show up and everything you need is there. Take a cooler if you plan on keeping it you can buy at the small shop at the dock.
Tina Thomas
Bring bug spray. The mosquitos swarm for about 30 minutes at dusk. Other than that. Book with Captain Clinton deArmas. He is knowledgeable and great at communicating exactly how to get the fish in the boat. You'll have a great time.

Get a great Captain like Brad who knows the area you are fishing. Be prepared for the heat of July. We made sure to select a Captain with a boat that had shade. Dress appropriately for the sun and heat of July. We had a blast and caught a lot of fish even in July.

According to some of the locals and a couple of captains that I spoke to, the fishing around New Orleans has been tough this year, however I would not have known that, as I had an excellent day on the water and caught a variety of fish.
Anthony Bass
St. Peters, MO
Make sure you find a good guide like captain Clinton who's eager to share generational fishing knowledge, clean and bag all the fish, and be ready to have a great time. In addition, don't forget the sunscreen protection.
Brett Cosby
Just know they really only livebait fish here and artificial arent used. They are meat hunting to fill their freezer, not just going out with artificial for fun.
Lisa Bartlett
dress accordingly-
check the westhet before hand
have good rubber bottom shoes
Kareen Ward
Make sure you dress appropriately for weather changes. We had coat hat and gloves because it was 55 degrees.
Terry Hoogstad
Make sure you connect with Captain Frenchy! He will get you on the fish!
Thank you Captain Frenchy!
Seb Holah
Yes. I was far from experienced myself and despite the captains guidance that redfish were a difficult catch, was able to hook plenty myself.
Cameron Askew
July inshore fishing in New Orleans is just tough no matter how you slice it. Our guide put us on fish and kept us smiling.
Michael Mullins
For first timers call up captain Mitchel and the only worry you’ll have is how you will get all them fish back to the house! Best guide hands down
Travis Brown
Just listen to your guide and catch what bites and be suprised by the many different species you can catch!
Michael Ayers
Absolutely, fishing is a science, we had a great day, expect it to be hot with afternoon showers, that’s everyday in the summer, this is The Sportsman Paradise!
Kristi Epley-rogers
It was very windy, but Mitch still made it happen. He has a nice boat, up to date equipment and has a wealth of knowledge about the area. A day you want regret!
Jennifer Ryba
Book Captain Mitch - Bayou Paradise it was worth every cent ( really more ) and you are going to catch fish and have a great time.
Antoinette DiMeglio
We fish all over the country and NOLA does not disappoint! Highly recommend fishing with Mitch when visiting
Justin Juhasz
Red fish are plentiful and stacked up. They are beautiful and hit extremely hard on artificial baits.
Chris Collett
Book with Captain Clinton. He will help you and let you know exactly what you need to bring for the day.
David Ordonez
Super hot in August so go early if possible. Wear UV protected long sleeves and full brimmed hat. Polarized sunglasses and plenty of drinks.
