What would you recommend to anglers fishing in Manteo, North Carolina for the first time?

We had a great time, weather was awesome and the area is beautiful. There’s many species of fish to catch and many friendly charters to help you get on some fish.

Definitely go with a guide who has good reviews or from recommendations from a local. A guide will greatly improve you chances of catching fish.

Water temp and cold northern air definitely put a damper on the fishing activity, next time I’ll be coming when it’s warmer. Seems to change year to year, but it’s not dependably good.

Manteo is a bit quite and less tourist-y than much of the banks. I would think fishing from here would be great for novices.

There weren't a lot of fish biting on the day we went out but Captain Hank still made sure we had a great time. Even if the fish aren't biting you can enjoy a nice day out on the water.

It's not great in the off season but we got on the Stripers since they were still schooled up deep in the bay.

Shifting winds can make finding the fish challenging, but that is what fishing is all about. Great little town to explore before or after the fishing is over.

Be prepared for a long day on the water. Pack snacks, sun block, and something to drink. Be patient. Fishing is an experience and will be fun.

Great area for the novice and experienced anglers. There is so many different types of fish to pursue.

Try to get a morning trip weather for shrimp with the family or fishing mornings are always better i have been on many characters.

We fished in a slow part of the season, the first week of April. I would love to go back and try again for something other than shark.

What can one ask in advance on one's first trip? I was told you had AC and you were untruthful. It did not. Not offering life vests is irresponsible.

May fishing will vary greatly year to year because it is so early in the season sometimes it's warm sometimes it's cold.

Go on a really sunny day. Cobia are spot fish and if the weather is overcast, it is really hard to spot them.

Highly recommend a trip on the Flying Fish. Captain Hank will take good care of you!

Slower fishing... Only Sea Trout... Would love to have found some Reds or Cobia.

Your not always going to catch all fish in ocean so be happy with what you have

Go in early June or September for best yellowfin results. February for Bluefin Tuna

Dress for colder then expected weather. You can always remove clothes when it warms up.
