First timers- fish between the first of June and the end of August for the best chance at filling up your fish boxes. September does provide some Coho and Halibut still. Fished 09/14/24 and the Halibut bite was hot. Also picked up Black & Silver Rockfish and North Pacific Cod.

Coho salmon last of 5 species to run. By October it’s mostly finished, but a good captain like Grantley knows where to make the best. Fished 25th of September. But there is whales and possibly orca and eagles to see.

Well it rained on and off so we didn’t catch as many as we thought but still were satisfied with our catch. This was our second fishing trip but first time fishing on Juneau. Our last trip was out of Ketchikan.

I would recommend booking your fishing trip in later July or August. You may have a better chance at catching salmon. We were in Juneau for a wedding, so we were there in June. We still caught halibut, but if you want a combination try for the later summer months.

Plan on wet rainy weather. Temp is 58 to 60 deg. F, but feels like 70. wear a ball cap to keep the rain hood out of your face. Bring anything you like to drink with you ie: beer, whisky, etc....And the most important thing is to enjoy yourself!

Do it and have fun... be flexible... we caught a 40 inch Halibut, had to release it as sport fishing guidelines the halibut has to be 38 inches or less. Salmon wasn't running, so went for Rockfish. Which were more plentiful and good for tacos. We did not have fish sent back, kept it and grilled some and froze the rest. Stayed at private residence in Juneau so could do that.

IF You are a first timer yes it is worth the trip. 3 stars only because I did not catch a fish. I was expecting much more because of all the fish stories I have heard so that was disappointing.

The only reason it is not 5 is because of the fishing restrictions when we went. It was nothing related to our fishing captain or deckhand.

Do your research and time your fishing trip according to the season for the species of fish you're going after.

The fish weren't huge or plentiful but the scenery and wildlife more than made up the deficit. Loved it!

Make sure you book a charter with experienced crew that makes sure your experience is great no matter how many fish you catch, regardless of how experience a fisherman you might be.

Currently halibut fishing is not allowed on charter boats on Fridays. We had to switch our trip from halibut to Salmon because it fell on a Friday.

We got lucky and had wonderful weather and you can't always count on that but you can fish in light rain so do it any way.

If you want to catch a fish, you have to stick it out. Standing, dropping your weight to the bottom every 5-10 seconds is worth it. Wear layered clothing also.

Regardless of how many fish you catch the experience is amazing. A must do, and captain Mike was so informative we really enjoyed fishing with him.

Fun Chum Charters teaches you how to fish for salmon. And provides rod, tackle, and rain gear. You need no experience or knowledge, they walk you through everything.

Bring binoculars so you can see all the fish jumping at a distance because there are a lot of them, and bring your muscles because you're going to need them, they put up a pretty good fight.
