For first-time anglers fishing in Puerto Morelos, Iโd recommend coming prepared for the heat and the possibility of rough water. Wear lightweight clothing, a hat, sunglasses, and plenty of sunscreen, and make sure to bring water or electrolytes to stay hydrated throughout the trip. If you are prone to motion sickness, take seasickness medicine before you get on the boat, because the water can get choppy once you are offshore. Most importantly, listen to your captain and crew, be patient, and enjoy the experience. Even with the heat and rougher water, it is so worth it when you hook into a beautiful Mahi Mahi or other offshore catch.

best fishing trip but may be seasonal on whats biting. trolled mainly. if you are looking for bottom fishing let them know. this is a trolling boat set up for sporting game fish. they can do both you just have to let them know.

A lot of small boats. Should mostly be experienced anglers. My son did fine on the trip but we do this a lot in Florida. Most kids would likely not do great a a boat this small and not being able to communicate if they donโt speak Spanish.

It's a fishing first destination, meaning if you want to take the family for a first time experience your probably better suited to start close to shore near Isla Mujeres. If you want to put in the work and catch fish then Purto Morelos is the real deal

Would recommend bringing your own snacks. Consider in advance if you want to mount what you catch, does cost extra but great problem to have! If younger kids, bring something for them to do during downtime btw catching fish :)

A must-do! The Captain and the first mate were excellent. It was a mother-son excursion, and my son caught a 90โ Swordfish! We also caught several sailfish, and the first mate filleted them. Our chef at the resort we were staying at made us a 3-course Meal: ceviche, fish tacos, and grilled.

Research trophy mounting costs beforehand. If this is your first time and you end up catching a large fish you will be asked to keep it or throw it back. We elected to keep our without knowing the costs associated. We were then told 10 mins after our decision that it would cost $2,000 USD. Felt a bit pressured to sign for it as the fish was already dead. Just wish we wouldโve known the costs associated beforehand so we would have thrown it back!

Puerto Morelos is a great little town. Has grown a lot since we were there 25 years ago but itโs still nice. Donโt have to deal with the crowds like at Cancun or Playa Del Carmen. Just make sure and check to see if it is the sargassum seaweed season. It smells bad and makes the water yucky.

Trolling was best for us, both for size and number of fish. Bottom fishing was a nice break for a little bit to try something different and catch a few trigger fish, but our favorite catches were all trolling.

Highly recommended, in our case we have gone with Captain Jaime and his assistant Julio, they are very good professionals. We have had quite a few catches of barracudas and some different species. Thank you very much and keep it up!

I have fished in the area multiple times in the winter. It can be good fishing if you have your expectations set correctly. During the winter months the Marlin, sailfish, and others are not in the area. However you can still have good days catching Wahoo, Mahi Mahi, Barracuda while trolling as well as a variety of tasty fish when bottom fishing.

The seas can get pretty rough. I was expecting more trolling action with mahi-mahi and blackfin tuna but instead got the bigger fish like sailfish and wahoo. Bottom fishing was very good when the current was cooperative.

I would recommend Puerto Morelos for first time fishermen. Opportunity to catch some nice size fish. I believe we got lucky with the white marlin, but the mahi mahi were pretty fun to catch vs other areas that may be more challenging.

Just know the sea is often pretty rough. Little children may not enjoy that part. My older teen was OK with it. You know what your children can handle. Something to consider. I highly recommend. Captain and first mate were great.

Unlike some of the bigger places Puerto Morelos is tranquil quiet place which is just what you need after a days fishing.
Take your catch to Sirena restaurant and ask the to cook it for you then take a shot walk along the sea front followed by an ice cream.
Lovely little place

Hire a boat because no matter how many fish you catch it's an enjoyable and fun adventure being on the water in Mexico. I also think it's nice to go with a small group so there's plenty of action for everyone and the personal attention is worth it.

If your looking for billfish you have to wait until May, but bottom fishing is great all year long and you take your catch to any restaurant and they will prepare it anyway you would like. PTO is a great place to fish and relax.

Show up and enjoy your time on the water, because at the end of the day, itโs not just about the fish you catch!! Itโs the memories you make while doing it!
Melissa Cruz
Yes, it was well worth the trip to Puerto Morelos. We had a beautiful lunch with a view where they prepared our freshly caught Grouper and Snapper at La Sirena Restaurant.

There is more than one marina, so get clear directions on where your charter is located, ask questions if you are not clear.

if thereโs a lot of seaweed stick to bottom fishing, donโt troll because youโll spend most of your day reeling in the line and clearing the line of the
seaweed

make sure you get as much info as possible before booking... and make sure they have great fish finding equip, a lot of live bait, and will do a lot of bottom fishing
Matthew Tumilty
slow season but there are some fish around to catch. Tough conditions with Sargassum in the area.
Joel Lowry
Excellent trip, easy for beginners and kids, enjoyable for the experienced angler

Trust the crew, they know where the best spot! Il be back soon! Thank you for the great experience!

captain stated fishing might be slow but the put us on fish and had an amazing time!
Mikhail Matz
Too much seaweed for trolling, but bottom fishing was very good (bring your own gear for best experience)

I've have charted boats in Jan, Feb, Early March and now end of May. Late spring is a better time then winter.
Merritt Bishop
Be prepared for a choppy ride. I do not get seasick so I was fine, but anyone who is prone to getting sea sick will not have a good time on such a small boat.

If its your first time fishing in Puerto Morelos book with the Black Moon and know that you are in good hands.
