Puerto Morelos is a great little town. Has grown a lot since we were there 25 years ago but it’s still nice. Don’t have to deal with the crowds like at Cancun or Playa Del Carmen. Just make sure and check to see if it is the sargassum seaweed season. It smells bad and makes the water yucky.

Trolling was best for us, both for size and number of fish. Bottom fishing was a nice break for a little bit to try something different and catch a few trigger fish, but our favorite catches were all trolling.

Highly recommended, in our case we have gone with Captain Jaime and his assistant Julio, they are very good professionals. We have had quite a few catches of barracudas and some different species. Thank you very much and keep it up!

Research trophy mounting costs beforehand. If this is your first time and you end up catching a large fish you will be asked to keep it or throw it back. We elected to keep our without knowing the costs associated. We were then told 10 mins after our decision that it would cost $2,000 USD. Felt a bit pressured to sign for it as the fish was already dead. Just wish we would’ve known the costs associated beforehand so we would have thrown it back!

I have fished in the area multiple times in the winter. It can be good fishing if you have your expectations set correctly. During the winter months the Marlin, sailfish, and others are not in the area. However you can still have good days catching Wahoo, Mahi Mahi, Barracuda while trolling as well as a variety of tasty fish when bottom fishing.

The seas can get pretty rough. I was expecting more trolling action with mahi-mahi and blackfin tuna but instead got the bigger fish like sailfish and wahoo. Bottom fishing was very good when the current was cooperative.

I would recommend Puerto Morelos for first time fishermen. Opportunity to catch some nice size fish. I believe we got lucky with the white marlin, but the mahi mahi were pretty fun to catch vs other areas that may be more challenging.

Just know the sea is often pretty rough. Little children may not enjoy that part. My older teen was OK with it. You know what your children can handle. Something to consider. I highly recommend. Captain and first mate were great.

Unlike some of the bigger places Puerto Morelos is tranquil quiet place which is just what you need after a days fishing.
Take your catch to Sirena restaurant and ask the to cook it for you then take a shot walk along the sea front followed by an ice cream.
Lovely little place

Hire a boat because no matter how many fish you catch it's an enjoyable and fun adventure being on the water in Mexico. I also think it's nice to go with a small group so there's plenty of action for everyone and the personal attention is worth it.

If your looking for billfish you have to wait until May, but bottom fishing is great all year long and you take your catch to any restaurant and they will prepare it anyway you would like. PTO is a great place to fish and relax.

This was a great trip the Captain and the deck hand were great. This is a great trip for anyone including children.
Jeff Brown
Go with a reputable Captain, do your research. I am a proffessional outfitter, and you cannot go wrong with Dream Catcher.
Jeff Roseman
Such a great experience. My grandson and I had success catching quite a few Mahi Mahi. The best part, we go to take home our catch from the day.
Enrique Manny Salazar
Wear long sleeves, sun gets spicy. It’s a boat so it will be rocky so be prepared. It’s normal but take it into consideration.
Paul Kinder
Captain and mate were amazing. They went above and beyond to make this a trip of a lifetime with my son in law and grandsons. I would recommend this trip to anyone of any age!

Don’t overpay, don’t get a Boat, catch everything you want off these little boats and don’t have to pay as much

Drink lots of water and electrolytes, and bring a big hat! The fishing is great but it’s hot and humid. The Marcangel was clean, organized, safe, and well maintained. The crew was amazing.

Book with these guys, first time or an experienced person. Theses guys will make your day easy and fun.
Adam Bayliss
Yes. This is an old Mexican fishing village. Everyone here is concerned with maintaining stock and conservation.
Sarah Scranton
Be ready to have a the best time and be prepared with the proper meds taken prior to getting on boat.
Kelly Winslow
Bring a hat and be prepared for a great day! It is more fun to bottom fish, you catch more and is more entertaining and fast paced.
Bryan Wagoner
Yes, there is less fishing pressure in this area. Puerto Morelos is a local fishing town with less tourists.
John Short
The panga boats are very seaworthy and easy to fish from. Don’t shy away from a trip on one of these boats.
Alwyn Umoquit
Bring gravol as the waves may get rough. Don't come with a full stomach so yiu can enjoy and savour the ceviche prepared by the captain.
Ian Roodt
I highly recommend first timers request to target snapper if they would like delicious fresh fish to eat.
Dwight Nagel
Be prepared for your trip including meds for those prone to motion sickness. Also keep in mind weather as we encountered large swells.
Randy Turgeon
Take a sea sickness medication it was quite windy, we were lucky to get out our trip was postponed 5 days due to the wind

It was my first experience fishing in Mexico. I’m a child of the bays of the South Jersey Shore so this was an eye opening experience. Would definitely book again.
Pattie Bouton
It was our first trip and we listened to what the Capt and First mate told us. They are the experts.
(Would take caution bringing small children)
