Fishing in Vancouver in August is definitely worthwhile, especially in a pink salmon year. The bay was full of pink salmon when we went, and they were fun and easy to catch — ideal for children or anyone new to fishing. It’s probably not the fish of a lifetime, but for a beginner to intermediate experience it’s perfect, and exactly what I was looking for when taking the kids along.

I’m so glad we were able to go fishing vessel before are cruise to Alaska. We caught fish which is a bonus, but if we didn’t catch any Scott still would have made sure we had fun. You won’t be sorry. Go make some great memories!!

Bring a raincoat... the weather can turn on a dime. Boat can get a little bouncy, but you very likely will NOT get seasick since the shore is close by. It was great having a bathroom aboard, and a very clean one at that. I can't imagine NOT catching fish with Captain Scott. He knows the area like nobody else.

Note the only keepers were the hatchery coho - we managed to catch quite a few wild ones and a couple of nice chinook, which were not allowed to keep in that area and time of year. Lots of action and limited out!

I would definitely recommend fishing in Vancouver for any level of fisherman. It was a fantastic experience.

Definitely check out Al from Stop, Drop and Troll. You won’t be disappointed.

Chris Hurst
Chinook are smaller this time of year, but we caught a bunch and hooked in to a couple of bigger Coho to keep.

Trolling for Salmon is a hunting/fishing expedition. There in no casting or work required until you have a fish on the hook but be ready to do some great fighting and work on you end of the reel.

It's why they call it fishing not catching. Each week is different the fish move in and out so you never know what the season may bring.

We had a calm day on the water. The day before was very rough, but they caught more fish—just to say that with fishing you take your chances, but the experience was great!

Having a captain that knows the waters and takes pride in his boat is key! Highly recommend captain Scott and Mongoose Striker Fishing Charters.

You can’t keep chinook salmon at this time but that was ok as we just wanted to catch and release.

Wear layers, weather can be cool in the morning and warm up nicely as the day goes on.

Check opening dates. Our biggest went back because we were a week before opening.
