We have enjoyed a great week of fishing with some very nice fish being caught. Red Snapper and Gag grouper open on June 1st and we still have availability for this much anticipated season opening. The water clarity has been getting good over the last week and along with it and the waning moon the King Mackeral fishing has picked up. Kings, as they are known along the Gulf Coast, offer the angler a unique chance to battle a fish that makes hard charging hits and screaming runs that peel line from the reel. Kings are typical a shallow water fish feeding on a variety of small bait fish. The larger fish often referred to as smoker kings like a bit larger bait but will also take a smaller offering.

Had a great group of guys out with us fishing two of them had never been and wanted to experience fishing in the Gulf of Mexico. We caught some nice fish and had some we never turned around. We also had a 60 plus pound Cobia swim up to the boat but he didn't want to bite anything. One of the guys said hey there is a fish just under the surface looking at me.......lots of laughs after that one.

Hurricane Hermine slipped by to the East of Panama City Beach and we experience high surf but very little rain or wind. We opened back up for business a mere 8 hours after landfall and are looking forward to some good fishing this Labor Day Week. We left the dock with everyone excited to be on the water and anticipating a great trip. Within 15 minutes we had our live bait consisting of cigar minnows and herring that we had bought from the bait boat, (Like a McDonalds for bait on the water) and began to put the lines out to troll. Before the second rod was in the rod holder the far starboard rod bent over double and the line began screaming off the reel. Travis ( deckhand) grabbed the rod and handed it to the youngest angler on the boat. After a long battle she brought her first King to the boat and Travis gaffed it and put it in the box. With a huge smile she yelled "that is my biggest fish ever! The King bite continued to be be great and we also caught some Spanish Mackerel and Bonita. At Captain Blacks Fishing we cater to the kids as nothing is better than seeing a young angler catch either their first fish or their biggest. The smiles and excitement of the young ones really gets the crew excited as well. Everyone had a great time and they are planning on coming back for the Fall Red Snapper Season beginning on weekends in September and October. We left the dock at 6 am and swung into the bait boat for a shot of cigar minnows before turning the Captain Black towards the gulf. We immediately started seeing some top water action and put our high speed trolling lure out but before it was in gear we had a a good sized King on the line and he was peeling line off the reel so fast I had to wait to engage the gears. We caught two more fish on the high speeder before we reached our fishing area and smiles were abundant and expectations now high. I baited up a Penn spinning set up and tossed the live offering back towards a school of bait. It hit the water and ten seconds later a King sky rocked out of the water with the bait in his mouth hitting the water and taking a several hundred feet of line on his first run. After a few minutes the fish was gaffed and brought on board. I looked over and said "Im sorry the fishing is so slow" to which everyone laughed. Great day on the Captain Black as we limited on Kings and had a large shark also cruise by interested in what was going on. We also have big Game Shark trips available at ngiht. We fish for sharks in excess of 6 feet.
