Out today with a lovely family who chose a bottom fishing trip for their sons 15th birthday. We all had a really great time and the fish were plenty. We started the day with some lovely big Trigger Fish amongst some smaller species. We then trolled a rapala whilst changing the fishing grounds and got a big take (not sure what it was) massive splash and off went the reel ….. unfortunately the fish shook the hook. Back to bait fishing and on the first drop everyone was hooked and some good size snappers appeared. From that we then landed some nice size hog fish. Whilst dad took a beer break I dropped down a bait and it was picked up fast and the reel screamed …. there was no stopping the fish, rod bent double, played the fish for a while but on such light tackle the line gave way. Due to the spot we were fishing and the fight the fish gave we are pretty certain it was a big amberjack. We will be back to get that one again.
