Trip Summary

An all British team from the Worthing area narrowly missed out on winning the Blue Marlin World Cup this week in Madeira from the port of Calheta with a Jackpot prize exceeding 1.2 million dollars. Husband and wife Captains Neil and Micky French who moved from Rustington to the Big Game Fishing boat Flipper II hosted anglers Dr Mike Seare from Findon and Adrian Price from Rustington succeeded in hooking and landing a Blue Marlin of 625lb which led throughout most of the competition. Adrian Price was the angler in the chair for this fight which lasted and hour and a half. It was narrowly beaten by a fish landed in Bermuda just 30lb heavier shortly after the weigh in. Later that night with results coming in from Cape Verde Final result was a winning fish of 950lb which meant that our team placed 3rd overall. Flipper II was the only boat in Europe to land a fish in this years Blue Marlin World Cup Competition. Unfortunately the fish was not registered in the Big Blue Challenge which it would have won as the first and second placed boats had also not entered - this would have been a prize pot of $577,000. The competition rules that the fish needs to be weighed in at the scales for verification. Team Flipper donated the fish to charity to feed the elderly and the local orphans.
