I’m sorry—it was a tough day. We started off fishing early for a few hours, then returned to the dock because I wanted to be extra cautious with your family on board given the weather conditions. Rather than keeping my afternoon open, I chose to spend that time continuing to fish with you all to try to provide a better overall experience. As it turned out, I received a call for another trip around noon and lost that booking because I stayed out with your group.
Some other captains chose to stick it out, and their clients ended up fishing the last two hours in heavy rain and thunderstorms. We made another attempt at 11:00 when the weather improved dramatically, but unfortunately, the fishing was very poor. We tried three different approaches and covered quite a bit of ground in search of active fish.
There were some fish in the inlet near the shoals that we potentially could have targeted, but conditions were rough that morning and would have been even worse with the incoming tide and increasing wind. With safety in mind, that wasn’t a risk I was willing to take.
In total, we fished about five and a half hours on what is typically a four-hour trip. I truly did everything I could to make the day worthwhile under the circumstances.
