We had a great day with Captain Blas! Service was very good, they even came closer to our location on the Malecon to pick us up and were early. Captain Blas spent time helping each of us learn to set the brake and hook, allowing us to be very hands on. I don’t think all Captain’s operate this way and if you are an avid fisherman you know how you want to be involved. Had some great burrito’s compliments of Blas’ mother. We ended up getting our limit of 8 Dorado and also managed one Bonito. It sounded like a few boats may have caught a few bigger fish but not sure if most limited out. For anyone reading lower reviews about “extra” costs. If you spend a little time researching and reading, there are NO “extra” or hidden costs. It clearly states you pay for bait and have to buy a fishing license. Some charters may include this but their overall cost may be more than what you pay here even after you buy the bait and license. Just take some time to read what you are getting from any and all charters. All in all, we were satisfied enough that we left the wives behind and took a 2nd half day trip. That day was a little slower for Dorado but still managed 3 and 5 Skipjack.

Blas was a great captain! He took us out where we caught our own bait fish to start the day.  Sadly it was slim pickings for all the boats but he tried his best to get us a fish in 4 different areas.  Although we didn’t catch anything worth keeping it was the best fishing trip we’ve had. He supplied breakfast burritos made by his Mama along with water. I’d highly recommend Blas and La Shina sports fishing.

Communication was pretty easy through Fishing Booker. We asked last minute about getting picked up, since the walk from our hotel was longer than expected. Julio offered to pick us up at waterside off the Malecón, a short 3 block walk. We opted for in-shore fishing and headed out near Isla Esperatu Santo. We bought bait offshore, but knew that would happen from other reviews ($25US/$500MX). We traveled about an hour before we started fishing. The sunrise was great and it was a beautiful morning. We had no idea what we might catch! Whatever was biting, per Julio. We ended up catching 8 skipjack tuna. The capt was really taking charge of the gear, so I had to ask for one of the poles. I’d never used a baitcaster before but quickly learned. They were filleted and we kept two and shared the rest. La Costa restaurant, which was right where the boat was parked, cooked our fish as requested and made it a great meal. The only thing we were unprepared for was tipping the captain. Our 22’ boat and gear was all handled by him. We never chartered a fishing trip before so it was new to us. There were several boats near us, and I would almost bet we caught the most fish!  If I ever return to La Paz, we would book again with La Shina.  It may also be good to let them know ahead of time if you plan to pay at the end with a card. 👍🏻
