Fishing in Oranjestad

When it comes to sportfishing in the Caribbean, it’s hard to trump what Oranjestad fishing charters have to offer. This island paradise boasts pristine beaches, beautiful weather, and deep blue waters that host a number of coveted fish. From offshore pelagic species to colorful inshore creatures and everything in between, Aruba’s capital is the place to be for a dream catch.

Oranjestad’s coastline is defined by ledges and steep drop-offs. Within a few miles from shore, you’ll find trophy Blue and White Marlin, Sailfish, Wahoo, Yellowfin and Blackfin Tuna, and Mahi Mahi. After some tasty table fare? Cubera, Yellowtail, and Blackfin Snapper, as well as Grouper varieties top the list.

If you’d prefer to stay closer to shore, that’s an option too! Flats fishing in Oranjestad is excellent and fly fishing enthusiasts will enjoy facing off against Tarpon, Snook, and Bonefish. You can also cast for Jack Crevalle, Ladyfish, and Barracuda.

Since you won’t have to travel far to reach productive grounds, even a half day trip could put you on trophy deep sea fish. If you have time to spare, though, don’t skip out on a full day adventure. Not only will you up your chances of landing a dream target, but you’ll also get to enjoy the beautiful weather and warm waters.

You’ll find a large selection of Oranjestad fishing charters at Renaissance Marina. If you’d like to set out immediately after landing, Varadero Aruba Marina and Boatyard is right by the airport.

Rules & Regulations

If you are a tourist fishing in Aruba, no fishing license is required. Please keep in mind that spearfishing is prohibited on the island and that all Billfish are catch and release only.

Oranjestad Fishing Seasons

January

The weather is pleasant and so is the fishing. Blue and White Marlin are terrific on the northern or eastern sides of the island. Speedy Wahoo are also ready to be reeled in.

February

The wind is at its strongest, which brings the windsurfers out. Enjoy the mild weather and troll for Wahoo while the bite is still hot. Further offshore, hunt for Blue and White Marlin.

March

The start of spring brings on the fly fishing season! Head out to the flats in search of juvenile Tarpon and Bonefish. Fishing for Blue and White Marlin offshore is red hot.

April

It's low season, making it a great time to visit if you want to avoid the crowds. Wahoo and Red Snapper fishing is almost as fantastic as chasing White and Blue Marlin is. This is also the time to hook Tarpon on the fly.

May

As the temperatures heat up, the Tarpon become incredibly active and acrobatic. Now is the time to break some personal records!

June

It's hot out there and will be for the next few months. There's no better way to cool off than by heading out on the water! Target Tarpon inshore and Mahi Mahi and Tuna in bluewaters.

July

The hot July weather is great news for holidaymakers. Make the most of the bite by targeting Tuna, Mahi Mahi, and Kingfish offshore. If you want to take advantage of Tarpon season, head to the flats.

August

Make Kingfish and Mahi Mahi your main priority and you'll see the icebox fill up in no time! It's hot out there so try to get an early start.

September

As summer makes way for fall, Sailfish move into the waters surrounding the island. Hop aboard an offshore fishing charter and dedicate your time to hooking this majestic Billfish!

October

Seasonal rain won't stop you from having a good time! The Presidential Aruba Caribbean Cup takes palce and coincides perfectly with Marlin season. This is also your last chance to hook Bonefish or Tarpon.

November

Mid-fall brings rains to this Caribbean paradise. But it’s a matter of minutes before the sun comes out! This is a great time to go Sailfishing, but Blue Marlin steal the show.

December

Rainy December weather takes over and it’s time to troll for Wahoo, Blue Marlin, and Sailfish. Add Red Snapper and Barracuda to your list for delicious tablefare.
