January

January is a popular time for vacationers escaping the cold on the mainland. Enjoy grappling with monster Tarpon in the backwaters and bays and finish your day at the vibrant San Sebastian Street Festival.

February

Peak tourist season continues in February, San Juan's dryest month. The great Tarpon bite continues, while you'll find plenty of Mahi Mahi and Yellowfin Tuna, amnong many more offshore.

March

Temperatures rise slightly, averaging from 72 to 82 degrees. Offshore, Tuna and Mahi Mahi are biting well around the FADs, while King Mackerel starts to invade the bay. Meanwhile, the Silver King is still on top form.

April

The peak tourist season starts to come to an end, although the weather is still very dry and pleasant. Temperatures remain about the same as they were in March, and the White Marlin bite picks up.

May

The slower tourist season means that smart anglers can find some good deals in local hotels. The Marlin bite is getting better and better, while King Mackerel, Tarpon, and Snook are all biting in the bay.

June

June in San Juan is hot, but there's plenty going on in town and on the seas to make it worth it. Marlin numbers are picking up: this is the best time to target White Marlin, while Blues are getting increasingly good.

July

In a fortuitous time for blue water anglers, as peak Marlin fishing season coincides with the low tourist season in San Juan. Focus on catching a Billfish slam without having to spend more than the odds on a hotel.

August

August is the hottest month of the year in San Juan. The weather is humid, but sea breezes can make you forget about that – especially if you have a Blue Marlin on the end of your line. Multiple hookups are the norm!

September

September in San Juan means one thing – the International Billfish Tournament of Club Nautico de San Juan. One of the top Billfish tournaments in the world, it really is not something you want to miss.

October

As the waters cool, the fishing scene changes up. Blue Marlin bites become less frequent, while Sailfish and Wahoo start to become the main focus. Smaller Tarpon are schooling in and around the bay.

November

November is San Juan's rainiest month, but don't let that put you off. This city is famous for its year-round fishery, after all. With Mahi Mahi, Sailfish, Yellowfin Tuna, and Wahoo on the cards – it's certainly worth a visit.

December

First time Inshore fishing, wasn't sure what to expect but it was great. Relaxing and calm waters. Wish we would have allowed ourselves more time to travel the San Juan traffic to get to the marina (took almost 2 times longer than google maps predicted due to traffic). Make sure you eat something before the trip. Be prepared with sunscreen and make sure you bring sunglasses and a hat.

Bayside Fishing Charters

No restroom on board so female passengers should plan ahead for a 4 hour trip. Some bugs at night (mosquitoes) but crew provided bug spray and they only last about 20 mins at dusk. Perfect trip in inland waters with light to calm wave activity (no motion sickness.). Bring a snack and enjoy!!

Capt Louis was great. He took the time to do his best to get fish on. We trolled and jigged. We did catch a couple Makeral and a Barracuda. This was four hours trip, but we did stay out a little longer to give us a chance to catch. This Captain is a professional and knows the area well. We would recommend him.

Captain Luis did an awesome job and had great hospitality. He knows a lot about the area and is a great teacher, I caught one baby grouper, a Kingfish, and lost two fish. My friend also hooked on to a monster kingfish probably 3x bigger than mine and he pulled the gaff out of captains hands when we tried to get him in the boat. I highly recommend him to anyone looking for a great time a great price! We're planning on booking another tour with him last minute before we leave as well!

Captain Lou explained the technique to catch the tarpon. My wife caught the first and mine was the second and twice the size. Then we hooked a monster size tarpon that unfortunately ran under a tree. Would highly recommend

My son wanted to catch Mahi Mahi!! I started out with the 4hr trip since I wasn't sure how he'd do offshore (since he is only 11). The only negative was, we only had 4 hours! They were very helpful and informative on things we didn't know about.They had a cooler packed with plenty of drinks! We will definitely be back!

Could he put us on four different spots throughout the afternoon. The last spot showed the most promise with seven bites but no actual hookup. Saw the tarpon jump twice off the line. Great conversation and a relaxing peaceful afternoon. Would definitely do it again even it didn't catch anything would definitely do it again.

Fernando is a great captain. When the weather wasn’t cooperating for off shore fishing we decided to go fish for tarpon. Even those conditions were not great but he managed to put us on some nice fish and we had a great time. Lots of laughs and overall nice guy to spend the day with fishing. 10/10 would recommend highly!

Capt Luis was awesome! He reached out personally the day before our trip and sent directions from our cruise ship to his boat. The taxis outside our pier tried to rip us off on fare ($90 one way for a 15min ride). We Ubered there with Capt Luis’s help ($21 one way).He took us to a great spot, and hubby was able to catch a couple. Capt Luis was friendly and had great patience with us! Highly recommend!
