What would you recommend to anglers fishing in South Padre Island, Texas for the first time?

Plan your trips for weekdays. Starting Friday afternoon through Sunday evening the Island gets very busy. Holidays are even worse.

Don't worry if you have little to no experience. I good fishing guide will make you feel like a pro in an hour, and it will be an experience you can't get anywhere else.

Early March is still cool, and the fish are less accessible from shore than when it gets a bit warmer. Charter is the way to go to access the better spots.

The Laguna Madre is a beautiful bay system with plenty of potential to catch limits. Remember, it's fishing, not catching so take in the whole experience in God's beauty!

Don't give up when you least expect it the fish will bite once you catch one red in particular you are sure to catch more be patient ?

There are a lot of fish out at the artificial reef, which is the largest in the United States. Only takes an hour to get there.

The freeze really hurt the bay and inland fishing so i would avoid it till Fall of 2023. Offshore is still really good.

Fishing was great, just check to see what Saturday the fishing tournament in May is going to be on. Would have fished Saturday also, but did not want all the chaos from 400 boats fishing in the bay.

Waves were larger than any other charter I’ve been on. Take Dramamine the night before and morning of so you aren’t the main source of chum.

The first hour we moved to a few locations before we found a good spot. We only caught whiting fish. They were small but we were able to catch enough for a great dinner.

Undertow is strong on the surf so be smart while fishing. Night time Fishing on the pier in port isabel is fairly good with artificial shrimp. Good luck!

January fishing in south Padre can be variable but the scenery is gorgeous regardless.
