What would you recommend to anglers fishing in Port Isabel, Texas for the first time?

find a captain on his game! i fish 12 months out of the year in texas oklahoma louisianna and new mexico and sometimes it is slow but you want somebody whos gonna make sure you and your party and are at least satisfied with what they paid for. we werent tourists on a cruise for entertainment we drive over 11 hours to catch fish and enjoy meeting a guide who takes care of you you feel confident you are gonna be successful even if you arent!

Every trip is an adventure, and patience often pays off with an unforgettable catch.

This was my family fishing trip. We had a great time. 2 of my sons became sea sick. Captian Lugo and AJ were great at help my sons during the time they were sick. Very professional team. The only downside is that the app fishing booker wouldn't allowed me to upload my fish trip photos. So not the Captian, just a small issue with the app.

Do yourself a favor and book a professional. While there are a few places to fish from the shore or the pier, the experience is completely different when you book an experienced captain. That being said, remember that it is still fishing and there’s no guarantees but the chances of success go up exponentially on a guided trip.

Yes it's best to listen to his advice and don't expect catching without putting in some effort. I would advise taking motion sickness preventative medication the night before and more in the morning. Weather and water conditions can change any moment, remember these are predictions. Have fun and BS with each other to make it a friendly family competition. Josh will let you know who Wins. I highly recommend right after a hard day of fishing and your fish are fresh and filleted taking them over to Joe’s oyster bar and having them cook your own catch. It is delicious wonderful staff and the food might I say is even better especially if you have a flounder and you take it in hole and have them fry it for you!!! I’m not big on things with bones and then and the thought of a whole fried fish. Just literally makes me want to not eat at all, but once I tried it game over, I will never eat another flounder the same.

We went out in Jan on an overcast day with cooler weather.. I know they say fish in foul weather but we really wanted some good eating fish and got nice catfish all day.. Just a fluke and I know you can 't have it all the time. Had a great time,, Captain was great, boat was fun... Fish were fun and we caught a bunch...just wasn't looking for catfish. Oh well, maybe next time... Thanks for the great time.

Book with George Strader , "George's Fishing Charter Service"! This guy will make your day! He had a sonogram instrument on his boat to find the fish. The day had a North Wind, which was not ideal for fishing--it kept the schools on the move and caused big swells in the gulf. The Bay, however, was excellent, much calmer & easier to find large schools of fish. The water was pretty cool but warm enough for a refreshing swim.

Ask questions to the captain. For my son we asked if he had a life jacket and he provided one and he had a huge ice chest on board for any you need to keep cool. Separate from the fish which was nice and sanitary.

Trying to follow up with the captains rebottled to my experience. I had told him I just wanted to go back because of my back and I didn't want to get confrontational. There was no request to discount the trip and that's what I feel. The captain did not know who is doing. I was just being lazy.

This was our first time here. And it’s January, so I know it’s not prime time. But the fishing Josh put us on kept our heads on a swivel! I will be coming back during peak season to troll for bigger fish : ) Josh knows his Sh@!, trust his process.

This was our fifth fishing trip in the area and by far the best. After the first 4, I was skeptical at best. Captain Josh will get all of our guided fishing business in the future. Forget the party boats in this fishery.

Go with captains like Skylar or others he may recommend if you have children. We went out with a few others that were terrible with kids (Mike Knox) but this trip was great!

fishing is fishing. if you expect to just catch your wrong. its not called catching. every day is different and ee had a blast just with conversation. the fish was a bonus.

The weather can be quite windy and thenwater rough in April - so even if you don’t think you get seasick, or have never been before - take dramamine as a precaution!! You’ll thank me!

Skylar is a great choice. He has a great boat with a restroom. Very comfortable whether you're fishing or just soaking up the ocean vibe!

The weather for our trip could not have been better. Cooler in the morning (mid/high 70’s) with a decent breeze to keep the heat at bay.

Plenty of options between the bay and the gulf. We hit the Snapper during the spawn which made fishing challenging but we still had plenty of action.

Go out with Capt Cliff. I had a great experience, laid back, professional, catching fish! That's what it's all about.

We caught a fair amount and three keepers. I think I would want to use some live bait as well as lures.

Capitán Rolando will steer you to the best fishing. He is very familiar with the top fishing that is available offshore and in the bay.

I recommend booking an experienced guide that knows what they are doing. Their experience will facilitate the catch.

Make sure the wind is not blowing this kept us from getting our limit and getting anything other than 2 red Snapper. Disappointing but not the Captain’s fault.

Make sure you take something for sea sickness regardless if you ever been seasick or not and dress appropriately for the sun with sunblock

The bay is extremely shallow. I was surprised to find that we were only fishing in two to three feet of water. Spent a lot of time looking for schools of fish.

If you're going to go fishing in the lower Laguna Madre, I highly recommend Capt. Ryan Falls. We had an awesome experience with him.

August is the time for fishing here. The TIFT tournament stirs up a buzz, and the fish are beautiful. Live croaker gets eaten up.

It was my first time fishing out of this port, and it was easy, friendly, and not hard to find anything at all. Recommended.
