What would you recommend to anglers fishing in Wilmington, North Carolina for the first time?

If you’re fishing in Wilmington for the first time (like I just did), I highly recommend booking a trip on fishing booker! Definitely book with Carolina Charters (Captain Victor) cause he’s great with beginners!

Call ahead of time and see how the fishing has been In that area, also the weather messed up the fishing for a few days. So plan accordingly we went the day after a storm, but should have waited a couple more days.

It was a beautiful December day and it was still cold. The wind made it even colder. Still caught a ton of different species despite it being December.

This inshore trip was easy and fun. Kept my son and I engaged the entire time. Victor was patient and positive all morning. Highly recommend.

I would recommend dressing in a warm jacket if you’re fishing in the morning time. Dress in layers.

We went at the end of August. However, keep in mind that the fishing experience is completely dependent on the weather at the time. Which is a luck of the draw.

I would recommend that you book with Rising Sun Fishing. The captain is super friendly and very personable. We have fished with him 2 years in a row and have not been disappointed.

Wilmington is a great town. You will enjoy your trip here I don’t know much about fishing. I just know I had a really great time. I definitely will be back to fish here again

Joe Currie is great. Everyone caught a lot of fish and my grandson caught a shark. Everyone is very happy and recommends this trip. We will pick him for our next trip.

I would book a trip with Captain Cord he is very knowledgeable of the area and great to talk to while looking for fish.

The water can go from calm to outrageous real quick, but the captain kept an eye out for us and got us back closer to the dock for safety.

It was a little chilly at first, but definitely worth going first thing in the morning to see the sunrise. It was beautiful.

Fishing is fishing, not everyday is a winner. However, be patient, find a great captain, and he will find fish no matter how much travel time there is between spots.

All types of fishing possible, river, inlet coastal waterway, inshore, offshore. Decide which you prefer, then research Captains/options.

Book at least two different half days to max out chance for catching targeted fish. The area is huge

My recommendation would be to find a captain with a hood rating and reviews including good with kids.

Make sure your captain is patient and can teach you how to cast off and reel them in. We had a ball both learning and doing.

Prepare for rain or shine, we got both. And the fish seemed to be picky in each spot. Squid and shrimp seemed to be the favored baits.

Overall a great place to fish, many different spots to hit along the beaches and inlets. Wide verity of fish and ocean life to enjoy, great place to live & visit!

The weather and ocean state were very nice, but recent storms meant the bite was much slower

Definitely make sure to get sea sickness patches, especially when the water's choppy.

Water and scenery is fantastic! Bite was a bit light, but that happens sometimes.

Fishing in the heat can be a challenge, bring plenty of water, sun screen and a positive attitude.

Cover up. Late June or September are when we’ll try next time for mahi or yellow fin or wahu

If you’ve never been on a boat in the ocean, bring something for your stomach.

Speak to your captain about the best time to go. Tides and solar/lunar tables matter.

Go see Captain Cord - he knows the area well as a native of Wilmington and can put you on the fish!

Make sure to take adequate food and drink. Don’t forget your sunglasses like I did!

Great experience, and lots of fish we’ll definitely be fishing here again. Highly recommend!
