Use prime time charter fishing and if possible book the early morning trip. We had 3 teenagers with us and an hour drive in so early morning would have been miserable with cranky kids but I think the captain said early morning trips may go better but our previous trip was night and we caught a ton. So it can go either way.

I recommend finding an established charter service with experience and the equipment to make the day enjoyable. Just surf the web a little to find the right charter on the day(s) you need. For me, with Mega Bite Charters docked right between Elk Rapids and Traverse City (our extended family was split up lodging between the three locations) was perfectly located. Only a 10 minute drive for each. Fishing in Grand Traverse Bay is also a plus for first timers because the waters do not get as rough as the big lake.

If you want to fish for salmon, wait until later in August. We were hoping to catch a salmon but it was a little early in the season at the end of July. We did catch plenty of Lake Trout, though.

Jerry with Prime Time is an excellent guide. He knows what he is doing. I caught some nice fish. I would do it again next time I am in this area.

To get out there and fish because the temperature and water are comfortable and the fish are biting. Consider the Big Kahuna team because they have great equipment and know their fishing.

Absolutely. If you’re into trout that are the perfect size for eating this is the place. Action was good all morning and we all took home a good amount of fish.

The weather in Michigan could be in the upper 80's or in the low 50's. Be prepared for inclement weather.
